I live in the Unite States and my last two helmets (Shoei and Schubert) came from Europe with ECE certifcation. Not only are they better tested and lighter, but they were much cheaper even shipped.

Many years ago, I heard that helmet prices in the US were high because of our tendency to sue everyone who made safety equipment that was worn in a crash. I’m not sure that was ever true, but I have heard of cases where someone was injured and sued everyone.

The USA is notoriously litigious but I don't think that's the cause behind the pricing difference. Although I can definitely imagine that being extremely annoying for any motorcycle gear brand.

I also am from Canada and get most of my helmets in Europe. My scorpion helmet cost me almost 200$ less even with customs and shipping included.. I don’t understand the helmet companies logic, it’s almost as though they are charging us to get a different rated helmet (Dot) that is actually cheaper made then their counterparts in Europe.

Europe is usually not only more budget-friendly but usually also quicker when it comes to introductions. Good for us, not so good for the Canadian dealers. Thank you for your comment. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel

That neotec 3 situation is pretty shameless from shoei if you ask me 🤷♂

No doubt the ECE standard is more stringent. Yet I am pretty sure DOT rated helmets have saved plenty of heads. And no, you simply can't compare the number of EU motorcycle fatalities with that of US motorcycle fatalities. Always more variables than just helmets. Y'all ride safe 😊

You're right on that. Anything that enforces rider safety is a good idea.

Thanks for this! I just got my HJC RPHA-91 in Singapore (where we have our own testing standard as well, PSB, which gets applied on top of ECE/DOT 😓) and was surprised to see a DOT sticker on the back when I was expecting ECE. Besides the obvious double D-rings instead of micrometric fastener, I'm curious how my helmet differs from the ECE version. Anyone know?
@Championhelmets4 ай бұрын
Aside from the helmet closure, most of the differences are pretty much invisible. Often times, helmet brands will slightly tweak the outer shell construction to optimize it for the local safety standard. Pricing and sizing might also be slightly different, but that's about it.

Why didn't you mention Snell? Many Arai and Shoei helmets carry that cert.
@Championhelmets4 ай бұрын
Good question. DOT and ECE are government mininum standards, and therefore much more influential on how helmets are designed and sold in their respective regions.

Very good topic and great information. I am in Canada and will only buy ECE helmet, The DOT certification is not very clear and will not get only a DOT label , I am a Shoei helmet customer but would not purchase the Neotec 3 that is not ECE in Canada.

Where do you get your ECE helmets from? Thanks for watching 💪

@@Championhelmets you can get the ECE helmet in canada Not with all brand , ei I purchase a Scorpion AT960 a few month ago and is both Dot & ece22.06

So it seems from a couple of the comments (excuse my ignorance) I can buy from you , I’m in the USA and you can ship the Europe version?
@Championhelmets4 ай бұрын
Yup, that's exactly right.

Pretty silly that the country that wants to impose its own safety standard (US dot) also allows many of its residents to ride without any helmet at all. Just adopt the world standard already.

@ceesklumper exactly, the way they have other motor laws, similarly they should enforce the helmet law. And proper helmets because some people wear those bowl shaped lids which are absolutely no good.
