This is a tutorial of one way to do Parallax Mapping (Basically, mapping with a program that isn't the game maker)using the TDDP BindPicturesToMap Plugin.
I goof a couple times, but I think I get my point across.
YOU CAN ALSO use YEP_RegionRestrictions to block off areas!
More MV videos coming soon! Feel free to comment requests!
Make sure to check out RPGMakerweb: / rpgmakerweb

@@shebov3617 What you do is get the plug in, and then, design the map in GIMP2 to the best of your abilities, using layers. And say "I can do this even though it doesn't look as good as that!" This is exactly what I will be doing. This gets around the foolish tile limits that I keep running into. BTW, I am rubbish at art and perspective. What I can do though, is use GIMP > Colors> Hue-Saturation to recolour an image. I can also copy and paste. What I can't do, is get perspective quite right, draw freehand or follow layer instructions as layed out in this video without going through it several times to understand what is really being done. It may take me longer, but its worth it. Best wishes!

@@shebov3617 The more you work with it and try different things, the better. Sometimes it just takes working with the material. Different paralax tutorials will also help you. Just watch them a few times, rewind, play and it will start making sense.

For anyone wondering about the gridlines in photoshop, its actually 24x24 pixels for RPG MV after I checked. I am not quite sure where exactly 48 is used. Just go into photoshop, press CTRL+K got to grid settings and set grid per pixel to 24. That worked for me. I hope it helps.

You should honestly be recruited by a game developer. It seems you've learned this mostly by your self. Incredibly impressive. I realize MV is more simple than straight up coding, but holy shit, you know what you're doing.

YOOOOO, I was fucking around with MV just to see what I could make and I wanted to do a pre-rendered look like the PS1 Final Fantasy games or the first 3 Resident Evil games, but I'd settled for just making pre-rendered tiles like Donkey Kong Country or Sonic 3D Blast. But now, holy shit, this changes everything. Now instead of awkwardly trying to line up tiles I can just build an entire environment in Blender and pre-render it as a background, then use that same environment in the FMV cutscenes so it's consistent

Probably the best tutorial voice over I've heard in the last few years. Really pleasant to listen to and not too fast that it's super hard to follow. Echo607 One thing I always liked about computers and stuff like this. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes a routine. Everything after that is just learning how to do things more faster and faster each time. Like when I make map for rpg maker, it takes me hours for 1 lol. It seems like without fast forward you could do it really fast.

It depends on how detailed the map needs to be:3 But it's like you said, you learn how to do things better the more you do it, so it makes it way easier and much less time consuming^_^

Echo607 Aaaaaactually! Nothing is impossible. You can always record your voice and send them as files through DropBox.Com There is even a website called VoiceActingalliance.com where you can live stream your voice acting with anime/Film projects. Sorry if it sounds like I am pressuring you. But you have a Awesome voice. And would do amazing as a Voice Actress. I'll have to check out your animations. Plus I am making a RPG Maker Game called, (*Calamity Trigger*) that I will also make into an Anime OVA, I already have scoring music engineers, I do all the artwork and story scripting team as well as advance script programmers, I might place the OVA here on KZbin as well. In the future I'll see if you're up to voice acting a character from the Game/OVA. Your tutorial has helped me with making my mapping look much better! Thank you very much for taking your time and doing this for us! And you're welcome. I am going to subscribe to your channel! keep up the good work! :3

+TheGreat Kobayashi Wow, thanks for all the input. I'll definitely check that out. Haha, I don't actually have any of my animations up on youtube yet - they were all made before I started doing this and I haven't done any recently. Sounds like Calamity Trigger is going to be a massive project! I'd be happy to voice act for it, so feel free to send me a message when you're at that point:) And thank you very much for all of the encouragement^_^ I'm looking forward to seeing what Calamity Trigger ends up being like!

Echo607 You're more then welcome! :) If you ever decide to upload your animations on KZbin.I'll be keeping an eye out for them. Yea, Calamity Trigger is massive, Just writing and organizing the story alone took me two and a half years. As time goes on, I will have a slideshow of concept art and the original OST for the Game/Anime OVA in the background uploaded here on KZbin. To get people familiar with the upcoming project. And thanksyou! Will do! I know the character you'd do awesome at voice acting in the series! I'll keep in contact with you as the development continues. As well as keeping a look out for anymore of your videos and tutorials. I guess for an example: If you like Final Fantasy, And Kingdom Hearts, You'll like Calamity Trigger. My fantasy work is inspired by Tetsuya Nomura. I might even go as far as making the series into a Manga as well. You're welcome for the encouragement, I think. No, I know you have an awesome talent! And I know you'd go very far! Keep your hopes up! and never give up on your dreams! :D

(Actually, my games have a christmas chibi-video-series I was doing for fun a few years back, as well as some oneshot spinoff manga I drew... and some short stories too now that I think about itO_o) "Keep your hopes up! and never give up on your dreams!" was such an anime thing to sayXD

Will you ever make like tutorials for how to make your own tilesets? Like for example your trees looks really good! And that building looks awesome too! I'm making a game and I think it will turn out really good! I want to make it stand out visually, and therefore I want to make my custom tiles etc. But the problem is, I'm really bad at pixel art. That's why it would be greate if you maybe did a video series on that :) And I mean like guidelines, tips and tricks, shading etc. Keep being awesome!

+Kev B :3 I do things in a very unusual way. My stuff is a lot less pixel art and a lot more "pretty things I can do in photoshop." And most of that was just trial and error:P I might give a tutorial a try in the future though. Making your own custom stuff is a lot of work and iinnccrreeddiibblllyyy time consuming lol. In most cases, it's way easier to just go online and find resources.

+Kev B CrackedRabbitGaming has an amazing guide on creating auto tiles. It was originally intended for VXAce but you'd just need to change the size of the tiles. It's called How to Create Autotiles - Color Coded Anatomy. He even has downloadable content to help as you create your own. After mastering that creating regular tiles is pretty simple. :D There are dozens of 8Bit art tutorials, it just depends on your software. My favorite method is to draw things large using simple colors then to shrink them down being sure to reserve sharp edges. I'm lazy that way.

Hi, first off thanks a lot for your videos they’ve been really useful but I’m having a problem with parallaxing that I can’t seem to solve. When I bind pictures to map they seem to bind to every other map and won’t let me change it. I’ve followed through this video and that all works well but then when I event a transfer the arrival map has the same parallax despite being given different pngs. Any chance you’ve encountered this? As I’ve not found it online

i know this comment was five years ago but just in case anyone still needs the answer today: my fix was to, in the event where the player is transferred, simply add a line that erases the picture(s), which is the bottom left option on page 2 of event commands. you may also need to use "unbind from map" plugin command, but i did not need to. good luck everyone

Regarding the 'x' and 'o' tiles: doesn't MV have region mapping like VXAce?

+Jack Coldstone Yeah, I didn't know about the region restrictions plugin when I made this. I do now, and an annotation was added to the video noting that.

I'd like to know if this parallax method works if your map is bigger than the screen. like if it's 2x2 screens in size, like a really big room.

Hey Echo thanks for the video. I'm new to the rpg maker mv world. I was just wondering if you had a step by step typed out or on pdf format so I could print it out while I'm working in photoshop. Thank you.

So I was trying to paint in the passable tiles using the X and O png file. But when I try to paint it in I don't see the dark gray boxes or the white boxes in the video, however it does work because when I test the game the player can't pass but it would be helpful to see where I'm painting the passable and impassable tiles. Help please!

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the whole "Overlay & Lower" thing. Can someone explain this to me? I'm not sure which part of my map I should section off. Specifically with Fences, Lampposts, and tree branches.

Photoshop I find doesn't have as many built in resources. I'd probably use gimp if I wasn't already pro photoshop:3 You might be interested in using photoshop brushes though. Here are some free ones: www.brusheezy.com/free/ground

Is there a updated parallax mapping plugin? I heard BindPictureaToMap has memory leaks also it has issues when zooming the map where all pictures *even those that aren't binded to the map* are moved off screen :-: I'm thinking of writing a program that just outputs a tileset and map data files but that just seems hacky

echo i did what you did but when i imported it to the rpg maker and set my project to have that parralax instead of making my background a one huge picture of the picture i made it just created four copy of it sort of side by side did you ever come across this problem?

is it something with the size of the image i dont really know
@caelangm
@caelangm 8 жыл бұрын
For some reason when RPG Maker saves an image of a map it scales the image down, so all you have to do in photoshop (or gimp) is scale the image up 200% and it should fit the screen
