That's because 16 years ago you assumed that the original Star Wars stories would at the very least still be a part of the foundation of the Star Wars franchise even if the franchise itself moved past it. Now they've shat on every plotline, character, story arc, and morality tale they used to create the foundation of the Star Wars franchise. It's like ordering a great steak, and enjoying it so much you decide to order mashed potatoes and a good wine believing this can only make the dinner better. But then the waitress comes out with your side and wine and pushes the plate with your steak off the table and as it flops onto the dirty floor they say, "Here have some mashed potatoes and wine. This is what you really wanted right"?

Heaven forbid while in a Bacta tank, Sabine (mostly naked--showing ass) has a memory or dream of her relationship with Ezra to flesh out the backstory or further the context of the series with Thrawn, since most people haven't watched Rebels. Exposition, but in an entertaining way (with ass). And this map is apparently another lost Jedi prophecy? What else could it be if it's buried and hidden away in a ruined ancient city. It might have been more interesting that Ahsoka picks up the info on Thrawn in some seedy location and is confronted by baddies. The viewer could get a glimpse into her character through dialogue and juxapose her lightsaber skills with the scene beforehand with the other Not-Jedi.

I wonder why when someone stabs another with a lightsaber they take it out the same way it went in. If you get stabbed and you fell the body will just slice thru the lightsaber, so if you stab somebody just take it out with an upward motion, slice vertically and nobody will survive that.

I think the most dissapointing thing about this show is the characterization. Sabine is simply not the Sabine from Rebels. She was full of attitude, headstrong and independent, but the show portrays her as too much of those traits without any of her more reserved and fun-loving traits to balance them out. Ahsoka is also portrayed as far too aloof and as an untouchable wise guru with little sympathy or warmth (traits that made her stand out throughout her time in the animated shows she appeared in and without, make her feel hollow and a sham of what once was... much like Luke in the sequels). Finally, the whole plot about Thrawn and a map leading to him (if we are to go off of the ending of Rebels) is total and absolute bologna. Ezra fired himself and Thrawn deep into what can only be assumed to be uncharted space, so an ancient map able to track him down is absurd. I am thoroughly disappointed that another group of beloved characters are going to be washed down to basic and minimalist character traits convenient for plot.
@josedavidcastillo9241
@josedavidcastillo9241 Жыл бұрын
Couldn't disagree more, considering that the "thing" Ahsoka and Sabine had got resolved at the end of the 2nd episode. You say that Sabine was headstrong and independent but didn't show any sympathy or warmth, again with 6 episodes left that's just nitpicking and don't letting character development actually do their thing. Wouldn't make sense for Ahsoka to become a different person after losing everyone, specially losing Anakin twice and finally seeing him as Vader. Then knowing that Kanan is dead and losing Ezra too? Obi Wan and Yoda also went to exile after they failed their mission in Episode 3. And what you say about the plot of Thrawn not making sense is so ignorant. Like, the star wars universe has like 20,000 years so it's not absurd that there is some type of knowledge or technology that can guide you to another galaxy that may have been discovered by a totally unknown species from the past.
@warnocity3633
@warnocity3633 Жыл бұрын
@josedavidcastillo9241 So I see your points, and I respect them. However, I disagree. Those two episodes were almost a feature-length film long; plenty of time to show us more depth with each character. Ahsoka, despite her loss, was still warm and inviting in Rebels. It sounds callous, but one more loss (technically two with the tension between Sabine and herself) likely wouldn't have rendered her so quiet and standoffish. Finally, you call me ignorant, but don't even seem to understand what I said. It's NOT absurd that there could be a map to unknown space. Plenty of books and other media took place from the Unknown Regions. Heck, Thrawn is a part of the Chiss who hail from the unknown regions. The issue is that the characters are so confident that this map will take them to Thrawn and Ezra, who were launched into hyperspace by animals without direction or purpose besides getting him away from all known civilization. It's very unlikely a map were made (especially one prior to their launch) that could track either down like the nightsister so confidently believes.

I tend to see traces of Side-Character syndrome - i.e. What is Ahsoka actually doing to get paid. What's her role/job as a non-Jedi Jedi. Hanging out with Droids? What is Ahsoka employed to do. Does she work for the General... ? Is this tied into Mandalorian S3 ? Aren't the Moff's still around ? etc. i.e. Does the audience actually know who Ahsoka is, or what she's doing looking for Golden Snitches that resemble Rubix Cubes. As for the Puzzle that needs an "Artist" and not a "genius" girl boss ... IDK. The core issues IMO... 1/ People expect this to be Mandalorian Quality, because Ahsoka showed up. Unfortunately, this isn't the Ahsoka show. It's Rebels Season 5 and they Netflix'd the animation into Live-Action. Both of which is a mistake - to Live-Action Adapt an animation, and to Netflix the concept by dragging a Kids Show, into an Adult conversation/era. While it could probably manage under a competent TV writer for Saga/Episodic TV, it's unlikely to adapt properly to the tone/pacing changes which has a different kind of story structure to animation or kids movies. Especially animated fights to Live-Action combat is a whole different flow and timing, as are 'villain monologues' and cinematic angles. Live action can't replicate comic / panel shots easily. 2/ The audience don't know who Ezra/Sabine/Hera/Zeb/Chopper are, because Rebels is an entirely different audience to Mando or Disney+ audience. The audience don't know, and don't care. Nor should they. If they had opened the show up with Ezra and Thrawn going down fighting, that would raise stakes and awareness of the drama/tension and relationships. But... as you noticed, relationships can't exist in Disney, romance between real people is forbidden, while romance between droids, species and same-sex people is applauded. 3/ There's signs that they didn't know how to make the series work, because of the Act 1 setup being very flimsy. In Mando, this is solved by the episodes being individually written/directed/filmed. In Ahsoka ... this appears like they had a Rebels Movie script.. and thought they could make it into a Disney+ show instead. Which then begs the question, what's Ahsoka supposed to do after Ezra/Thrawn are found. There are signs Ahsoka might be put on the Bench once Ezra turns up, either because of distance, or a 'superweapon' that has to be destroyed or it will affect the Franchise. And we can't afford to bring in Virtual Luke Skywalker or Mando / Bo-Katan / Moff Breaking Bad, the budget won't stretch that far to hire another A list actor. As for the quirky barren spire city / City of Oz like location, The 'worlds largest highway' I seem to recall is because Lothal is a "farming planet". i.e. Space Ohio/Lousiana. It turns out to be a protected world by the Jedi, which is the downfall of the planet when the Empire strip-mines the planet for the Death Star / Khyber-Crystal mining (the plot of Rogue One). And it's isolation also means they can set up an Imperial fleet outpost. The "tower' is one of hundreds of drone relay communications towers spoked around the planet to herd and farm the now-dead cattle, and due to the strip-mining for Khyber and other minerals, the forests/mountains are basically gone, and what's left is open fields of nothing.

I watched most of Rebels, and thought it was decently done with characters. My issue was that this took place maybe 10 years? (timeslines are fuzzy) from the events of Rebels and yet, all of the characters not only went through the Galactic war, but seem frozen in time to who they were before it. Sabine still looks (physically, usung your ass shots as evidence) and acts like a moody teenager, but wouldn't she be in her late 20s now? Hera had a KID and also always had a more maternal vibe from which she drew her strength. Eith Ahsoka, I felt like they were going for "detached wise Jedi vibe" but something felt weird. I wanted to still see her unconventional way of using the Force come out in her fighting, but the scenes were so bland. When I saw that "other galaxy" pop up, I had flashbacks to the MCU and was like, "Please, please don't make this into a multiverse type of situation." Part of Star Wars is that the galaxy is well... practically infinite. We don't need another one with "different rules and a different reality."

As expected, they ruined Sabine. She escapes from an important ceremony without warning and embarassing everyone, she ignores direct orders to return, endangers the pilots, she steals an artifact of national importance because, you see, she thinks better at home, she almost detonates a bomb next to herself, Ahsoka and the only a clue to Thrawn (thankfully the droid saved everyone), she runs to fight on the roof with an unknown enemy and takes only a lightsaber with her, but not Mandalorian armor, she knows how to fight with lightsabers no worse than a Padawan despite her low sensitivity to the Force (plus a bunch of her abilities of the Rebels), she survives being stabbed with a lightsaber like a teapot burn...Like Ahsoka, she became a Mary Sue. Again this idiotic start with a map from The Force Awakens... Who the fuck, how and why made a map to Thrawn's location? Thrawn is definitely not going to move anywhere in the coming years so that this map does not become useless? Who hid it in the ancient tomb of the Nightsisters? At first I thought it was Morgan, but in the second series, even she does not know where Thrawn is...

LOL. I really did laugh out loud. As a child sitting in a Westwood CA movie theater in 1977 I never thought I would see the shame of the “Disneyfication” of what used to be Star Wars.

honestly. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good. It was thoroughly mediocre, playing more as a bit of fan service for someone heavily akin to SW Rebels. Honestly, the actress of Ahsoka, Dawson, just felt bland. Barely resembling Ahsoka's in both personality and body language.

To me the idea that they would self-destroy doesn't make sense. They want the map, right? Okay, so why self-destroy when defeated if this risks destroying the map too. If Ahsoka isn't quick enough to escape the vapor wave the map gets fried. Dumb.

Also... dunno about anyone else, but I get irked how characters from modern SW animation are making it into live action but when it comes to ANY characters from Droids show from the 80's.. dead silence. Not that I'd want Disney to wreck that, but... you, for example, have Mungo Baobab, a character created by Ben Burtt who's practically Indiana Jones of Star Wars. It's hard to imagine he wouldn't be appealing... but nope... modern animation matters only...

This show just reaffirms the truth that great casting in front of the camera only gets one so far and can do only so much to compensate for poor selection on the other side of the camera.

If the characters can't express passion or commitment, they could at least have the good grace to lose a limb. That's when you know they're good guys prepared to go the distance. One problem is not that the show doesn't recap CW/Rebels, the characters are devoid of past, emotion or motivation. And the map is so lame. Better to have Morgan do magic, and Ahsoka commune with Ezra through the Force, and have a race to the destination point. Then you would have a sense of their distinct powers, in this timeframe, and something we can all get behind - a competitive quest. The map also breaks canon in half a dozen ways and sets up narrative confusion, especially re the Night Sisters.
