i really love yours style of explaining your thought process as you experiment with speedrun strategies. the best part of speedruns is seeing them develop. i think i'm gonna give this one a try. i have a tendency to get locked into one playstyle, and this will help me mix things up and challenge me to not be so concerned about things like material efficiency, digging up natural tiles, and confining myself to 16x4 room grids.

Just tried it (same conditions) and got it by cycle 8 (almost at the end of the cycle). I started with two diggers - one had hard digging and the other superhard (and one researcher). The plan was to use the skill point of the first dupe throug printing pod into advanced research (I also accepted a fifth dupe - it was good at supplying and tidying). So I did but I actually wasted time by doing that - my plan was to use conductive wire, but by cycle 7 it was clear that I would not be finishing the research AND refining copper AND building the wire itself by the end of cycle 7. So I switched one of the researchers into building. In overall I think that even by cycle 7 is doable - just skip the research of conductive wire. I also got lucky in my search for fossil - I was actually planning to dig in opposite direction but there was a mealwood in the need of harvesting in the other direction. Doing that revealed some fossil tiles further away. Echo, thank you soooo much for the inspiration and example - I enjoyd it a lot.

And second run on another map - done by cycle 7. Maybe even possible by 6 - I accidentally took two diggers with superhard digging (instead of one super and one superhard) - so to reach fossil I had to wait until the first skill point to arrive.

Hey, just saying when it comes to the research stations, you can put the super computer on the left where there's two tiles of light and still get the lit workstation buff, so the side you put each one on is entirely up to you. You still get the buff.

On the right you should also put the manual generator (next to research table) - it gets the last tile of light and therefore light bonus.

I always put research table right and manual generator next to it - so both have light bonus. Abd two tiles of light to the left is enough for a dupe working on super computer to get light bonus.

@Echo, why put in a bathroom and wash basin at all? Why not have the dupes go to the bathroom where they’re at? And why the washing? Just trying to understand as you were willing to let them starve.

The debuffs start to add up (peeing themselves, and walking through their pee, stress etc.), and could impact the speed of the run.

i would say the basin and the room bonus does not worth it, but not peeing and have random pee everywhere is worth it.

Doesn't the light only need to be on the center tile of a super computer (meaning you could put it on either side of the printing pod)? Or am I missing something...
