Eckhart Tolle is widely recognized as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. He travels and teaches throughout the world.
Eckhart is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none. His profound yet simple and practical teachings have helped thousands of people find inner peace, healing and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of his teachings lies the transformation of individual and collective human consciousness - a global spiritual awakening.
Eckhart Tolle is the author of The Power of Now, a #1 New York Times Bestseller, which has been translated into 32 languages and become one of the most influential spiritual books of our time.
In his most recent book, A New Earth, he shows how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world.

I can't find the words to express my admiration for beauty, innocence and grace of that lady asking the question. I wish she was aware of that fragrance of beauty and presence that she is bringing to world. Hopefully she could read this comment! What if you support my opinion and put "thumbs up" for this comment and this video to attract her attention?)) Why can't it become a flashmob?

Very calm, relaxing, and soothing presence she has. The kind of person you can completely open up to and have truly in-depth conversations with. Vulnerability is hard to find in this world where everyone feels the need to always have thick skin, but to have honest connection with another person is a beautiful thing and expressing that is what makes life worth living. To feel.

Are true needs better described as "essential life necessities"? Which I believe have evolved since the beginning of man due to the unavoidable constant influence within society & the evolution of consciousness because of the increase of population, technology and availability of everything simply with the abundance of money in a lot of of The World. Temptations and influences are often but not always nearly everywhere and at times simply unavoidable. You very much also got me here Eckhart. I am sorry for everything I said disrespectful, and I am extremely grateful for the wisdom I have gained from your books. I also do greatly appreciate your stillness and presence. Much Love to you and your Wife Kim

Mental illness is real, I used to think it’s all in your head and if you just keep positive, present and stay with the observer self the negative thoughts go away. “All things will pass” but when you experience true depression you are unable to function properly, everything seems impossible and pointless, death is always on your mind. Sure you can step out from this and observe those dark thoughts and you have the ability to focus only on the present moment but they don’t go away. THEY ARE ALWAYS THERE. They become you and you try everything from diet, exercise, therapy, mindfulness, and you keep at it and force yourself with what little energy you have to not give up and still the depression remains. It was not always like this which gives me some hope that change is possible. I don’t want to identify with depression but it is very real
@Shryquill
@Shryquill 5 жыл бұрын
Depression certainly is real, nobody doubts that, and Eckhart knows this as well as anyone else does too. Rather than watching these videos, do yourself a favour and get a hold of Eckhart's Audiobook, "The Power of Now". The information is has structure, the dots will all connect much better. Know that there is nothing external to a person that can help them internally, only the person themselves can deal with what is happening within them. With that in mind, listening to the words of Eckhart, or any other teacher, they can show you the way, but it is you that must walk the path. I know that you can do it :)

Addiction to Love From my PERSONAL experience, emphasis on personal... depression is similar to addiction. Once you kick an addiction you realize that life is generally better without it I feel like it’s a subconscious addiction. It’s ok to be sad but perpetuating it and becoming depressed isn’t, when someone can fight back with meditation exercise etc Emphasis again on my personal experience

The pain is a cultural phenomena, that was the gist of the book I read dedicated solely to pain-idea. A pain-idea-free discomfort is different from the pain-idea, a proof to that for example is lower tolerance to pain when being watched, especially by those who do no wish to see you being in pain. So I'm afraid those who do not wish to see you in pain make it more painful for you than it should be.

I wondered if someone could help me with this question. I think, I´m understanding nearly everything Eckhart is teaching us, but there is this one thing I have never noticed him talking about (or i didn´t understand it the right way) and that is the energy behind the things that we want. I mean he says it is good to have goals and wanting things, but i don´t get where the motivation should come from, if you´re free of expecting fulfillment. I have an example for it. I used to go to the gym now for over 4 years. Last year, when I heard of Eckharts teachings and started to learn from it, I noticed that i only went to the gym to be accepted or get more appreciation over physical appearance, which is obviously a big ego insecurity that hold me down in unconsciousness. Now that i know about it i don´t have the will to do anything. I´m 20 years old and i don´t have any idea where i want to go with my life (especially with my job choice), because i don´t feel the need to do anything, because i can be happy without. I mean Eckhart sat at bench for two years not doing anything then being conscious, did he ever said something about why this haven´t been enough so he is doing what he´s doing now? I hope my english is good enough to convey this thought, greetings from Germany.

Passi191, Guten Morgen, greetings from Chicago. Your English is certainly better than most of us. I would suggest not to look to one person for all answers. As good as Eckhart is, even he wont have all the right answers. Look for answers, keep your mind open, try a few things. Follow the core principles like being aware, and practising no- thought state of mind regularly. About motivation, its a key factor in life, Do not be consumed by it, but Be Aware and not pre-identified with it, it is good to be motivated as its driving factor for success in life.
@AlexShailer
@AlexShailer 5 жыл бұрын
Passi191 Hey. It sounds like you've just lost many egoic motivations (a good thing) but havnt yet replaced them with conscious motivations. The egoic motivations come purely from the desire to boost or add onto a false sense of self, or to escape some fear, guilt, or shame (identification with the mental concepts). The conscious motivations come from a deeper place, they arise out of the stillness within you. They don't all necessarily have to be 'conscious' in the sense that they are you trying to save the world. Sometimes we just like to look and feel good or attract a healthy, sexy partner. But the desires come from a place where you're not dependant on them to bring you to peace. But also, some motivations may be conscious in the sense that they are more aligned with bringing more compassion into the world or helping to awaken more people. They are often motivations that involve others. For example, I have very high gym motivation, but that is so I can live a long life and feel mobile for a long time so I can enjoy this world and share love with others for longer. I'm also on 100% plant based diet and I want to show the world that you can become strong, and have a great physique without paying for animals to be harmed That is my way of helping to create a more compassionate world. Breaking the stereotype and showing that vegans can be muscular. You will develop conscious motivations yourself too. Just let the answers arise from the depths of your being :)

Hold on. As far as needs go, what about human love and interaction? Loneliness kills. We need each other and babies who don’t get touched enough grow up with problems. Even animals need that. Mindfulness is useful, but I always feel it’s missing something for me. I like a little passion, egoic or not!
@chetan9533

"neediness" kills even more painfully if things don't go your way(which will most likely happen coz external situations will never be 100% in our control). Our inner state can be 100% our way though if we work enough for it, thats why spirituality is often linked with words like mukti, nirvana etc(which translates to liberation/true freedom). Right from our childhood we're constantly living with a sense of incompleteness, not knowing any other alternative we've always been trying to fill this sense of lack using relations, possessions etc. Unfortunately this gets labelled as "love" but if we look at it carefully, we're just trying to control everything to squeeze joy out of everything and everyone because we never have a sense of satisfied independent joyfulness. If we try to fill this sense of lack using any external factor, it might give temporary satisfaction but we'll be endlessly craving for more and more of such external factors to stimulate joyfulness within us. Like hungry ghosts who are never satisfied. No wonder most intimate relationships result in people being extremely possessive and thus ruining it, they want the other person to behave "exactly the way i want". This happens because we're trying to use other people to fill a sense of unsatisfying kind of incompleteness within us, which they can never fill(not permanently atleast). Thats why spirituality is about getting us out of our compulsive endless needs. It gives you causeless joy which is independent of all external factors. Now this doesn't means that you'll stop having beautiful relationships. Its just that you won't find yourself squeezing happiness out of them by trying to control them in multiple unrealistic ways, instead your relationships will be more about sharing the pleasantness you continuously feel within yourself irrespective of whether things and/or people going are your way or not. Then even if you have to be alone, your "solitude" will just be "solitude". It becomes "loneliness" only when you aren't self dependent enough for your happiness.

It's absolutely ok to have a partner, Eckhart himself has a girlfriend, the only thing is to just keep in mind that relationships are not there to make you happy they are to make you conscious.

Chetan Chandel I agree with you totally and that is very well said. I just felt he was discounting human interaction, not necessarily romantic, as a basic human need, which it is. People wither from loneliness without some kind of connection. It doesn’t have to be dysfunctional. That’s why women live longer than men, cuz we share our feelings with our friends. And married men live longer than single men. Thanks for your wise reply.
