Reverse-engineering an interesting fader that uses two split transformers to sense the position of the wiper.
The Eternal was used in the Hak 360 series of mixers.

@5:44 Actually the square wave is filtered by the resonance of L101 (68uH) and C104 (10nF) thusly filtered into a Sine-Wave, which is then Amplified by Op-Amp IC104 and fed into the Inductor. Thank you very much for the schematic! Liked and subscribed FOR SURE!!!

Thank you! I've owned a HAK 360 on two occasions (still own one, but with an Innofader), but never looked at the insides of an Eternal. They barely needed any maintenance, ever.

I never expected that some faders are so special and excellent engineered. Great video!

Mine stopped working, cant figure out why. Channel faders and eqs are working. Crossfader seems just bypassed 😢

Hey Andy. I just resurrected my Ecler HAK 360 that I inherited off my late friend Soren. I absolutely love the fader and mixer in general but I'm getting weird crackling, distortion and left channel dropouts and all sorts of weirdness. Was wondering if you had any ideas what was causing this? I took out the fader and gave everything a good clean but it's still happening. Cheers bruv

could be anything mate - it needs gone over with an oscilloscope. Take it to a repair shop

Hi. I'm trying to find an L101 inductor 68 uH 0.13A that is located in left upper corner of pcb. Can you tell what original part is?
@TheRasteri
@TheRasteri 2 жыл бұрын
no idea, but any other 68uH inductor would probably work, as long as max current is more than 0.13A you're fine

What happens if you put or move a strong magnet near such fader?
@zaprodk
@zaprodk Жыл бұрын
It wouldn't interfere with the high frequency signal in the coils, but a strong permanent magnetic field could saturate the inductor/transformer, blocking power transfer.

I imagine a fader based on magnetism can be made an easier way. For example, using hall effect sensors at both ends.

Yeah that's how the rane faders work

Ah. Alright. By the way, how did the capacitance measurement data transmission on those spinning discs for those mini-portablist products without a slip ring?@@TheRasteri
@TheRasteri
@TheRasteri Жыл бұрын
@@OMNI_INFINITY because you only need one conductor for a capacitive sensor, you don't need a slipring - the bearing itself conducts well enough to work

Cool. Haha. Hadn't wondered until tonight when thought about it. So literally using the bearing as a circuit. Nicely done. Engineering salute for that! Actually used some mochi (was residing in japan) for a cap button before. LOL. @@TheRasteri

Does anyone out there find this fader repeatedly gets sticky from the glue holding the metal squares in place?? I'm CONSTANTLY having to open her up and scrub between these boards with alcohol, wiping away the yellowy sticky residue that seems to just appear. The metal slider is touching one of these boards as it moves back and forth (there is a mm or so of vertical play if you move the fader cap up and down, and it will touch the board), but that only seems to matter if there is a build up of glue, so if it gets sticky (usually after a few days of heavy use) i'll open it up and there will be glue on the slider plate too. (should i be adding red deoxit to reduce friction here or not?) Also, the glue holding the slider plate to the plastic slider has failed so now I'm periodically glueing that back on too.... I had the fader a little under a year before i started to have issues. :( I can see one comment here saying they barely ever need maintenance but that is the opposite of my experience. I'm genuinely gutted as i can't afford to replace rn and i just want to practice!!!!! Respect to @TheRasteri for the amazing video, i can't find much else out there so any comments would be greatly appreciated!!!! ✌️

The metal wiper isn't meant to touch the boards... maybe try very gently bending it
@superducker7899
@superducker7899 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRasteri Hmmm, aye, but it has a wobble which means even if it's perfectly central, it will still touch them if i wobble the fader cap. Which obviously i do whilst cutting. Maybe the two bars which hold the slider are loose then? Thanks for suggestion tho dude very much appreciated. If anything else comes to you lmk! 👌

@@superducker7899 yeah that sounds like a loose slider - at least on the eternal I tried, it was moving without touching either circuit board
