Day Din has a similar approach in his masterclass, but he puts a lowcut on the first 16th Bass. It makes sense that you say it´s worse because of the Phase Change when doing a lowcut. Great tutorial. And it makes a lot of sense, since in the end it is the fundamental of that first low velocity bass note that causes problem and needs to be aligned with the tail of the kick. And as you well said, no need to tune your kick to the fundamental of your bass, which is great thing, especially in tracks with lower key. In addition, when you follow the phase alignment procedure, in the end it will add up with the kick, resulting in more overall subs, which is not necessarily desirable.

Marko, confinement made me start to learn music production last year and you are the closest thing i've had resembling a teacher. Although I follow a bunch of channels, you are especially inspiring and your teaching method is awesome, as you focus on making us learn on our own. You could simply make patches/specific sound tutorials and then share them with us but you prefer to dig deep into the process of doing something instead of the results, which is quite amazing in my opinion. Personally, I have liked every tutorial for now. Although they were more difficult to follow when I started my (for now) short journey into production, with a bit of research on my own about certain concepts, soon I appreciated the technical complexity that you want to reduce in the following videos. I am not telling you that you shouldn't change the tone or depth of your tutorials, but be aware that little people out here on youtube go as professional as you, and is something that we, newbies, are eager for. However I trust in your decision making and this change will be certainly for good. Im eager to hear what you have to say about other not so technical topics. PS: As a graduate in Linguistics with a Masters in Teaching, I praise you for your really good English, your teaching methodology, and the wisdom and insight you give us. Thank you very, very much.

I've been saying the same thing here... So many "ducking" plugins that are useful but I think that three ways are useful to get rid of phase issues between bass and kicks. 1- Phase align - if this can fix, why not? The surgical method takes some time and demands a lot of willpower. And if your bassline has more than 1 single note, you'll notice that each note has a different wave cycle time, of course... ...so, your "phase alignment" will be lost unless you change the kick pitch and the bass pitch together. 2- Dynamic EQ, precise and isolated on bass, use to be the best, but if you have a Soul rhythm (not that 1 kick hit by tempo bar) and a musical bassline (not that one-note Chinese torture), you'll have some problems, too. Because the fundamental note of the bass will change constantly. 3- Ducking. The Bazooka fixing style. Don't kill the reaches, turn the building down...
@EClipChannel3 жыл бұрын
1 - phase align, why not? - with perfectly aligning you will create a boost on summing area. 2 - dynamic eq - you can solve that with the sidechaining the low shelf and triggered by kick 3 - ducking - don’t have a clue what do you mean!

If you make your bass in serum you could do this straight from the synth. Just remove the first harmonic from the wavetable editor, add a sine from sub oscillator that will be your first harmonic and with an LFO set to 1/4 reduce its volume for the first note. Or you could use some multiband dynamic sidechained to the kick to only lower the low-end of the bass. I usually used this a lot for making KBBB instead of KbBB, so I could keep the presence of the first bass note without boosting all the low-end
@EClipChannel3 жыл бұрын
And if bass is not from Serum??? Like I mentioned in the video, this bass is from Sylent!
@DanRamone813 жыл бұрын
@@EClipChannel as I wrote, in alternative to serum you could use a multiband dynamic side chained on the Kick. But you could do the same in sylenth...OSC1 saw wave, OSC2 sine wave with reversed phase...more volume you put on OSC2 and less of the first harmonic you have as you going to cancel it with the reversed phase sine wave. I don't understand why you call this video alignment, you take out -6dB, then you lower even more the volume with LFO tool, then you lower the first harmonic of the first bass...your first bass note has no information on the low end that need to be aligned to the kick.This what you are showing can be very useful if you have many notes on the bass as it will be impossible to align the different notes with the kick - because of the different wavelength - but in this case I prefer to do it straight from the synth...or you have to change eq every time you change pitch on the bass.

@@ctrl4OFFICIAL No, eq doesn't change the phase always. I'm sorry but you are wrong here. It depens from what type of eq you use. Thank you for this video. Very helpful as always! One question though: You said something about using the linear phase mode of the equalizer but it was set to zero latency in this example. Is that actually something you have to worry about or is it not that important? Thanks man, Cheers
@EClipChannel3 жыл бұрын
Personally, I do not care about pre-ringing that zero latency is making, but I don't want to teach others something that is based on my personal belief. It is against the industry standards, but I really never had a problem with it. So I decided to say something that is correct, but in my production, I do not care about it, as I never felt it was causing me problems.
@EClipChannel3 жыл бұрын
To be more specific, and to avoid any debate or misunderstanding, Linear Phase is causing pre-ringing. The Zero-latency is changing the phase. But it is really important how steep low cut is, on 6 dB/oct , 12 dB/oct and 24 dB/oct, all of those things are really in small portions, that small that I don't care about them, as those effects I never managed to hear. If you use 96 dB/oct low cut on zero latency mode, the phase will be much changed, or if you use lowcut 96dB/oct on linear-phase mode, it will make a much louder pre-ringing. So instead of being careful of phase change, and loud pre-ringing, I decided to never use more than 24 dB/Oct, and I won't have any problems. And it works really well for me.

In other words we change phase of the 1st harmonic of the bass, if the pitch of the bass and bassbody of kick are equal. So we can get a different waveforms of bass tail in 2/16 and 3/16, 4/16 bass notes! Is it good for kick&bass sound? If we are aligning kick and bass with your standard tutorial, we have a similar bass tails (2/16, 3/16, 4/16) but now we could get a new one bass tail in 2/16!

If you want to align the kick and the bass, the tail of the kick needs to be exactly as the bass oscillations, there is no other way to perfectly align phases if they aren't the same. If they aren't the same, you also can do close but not perfect align. With this technique, by reducing (not removing) the first harmonic of the first note of the bass line, we don't need to match phase, because by reducing the first harmonic, there are not any phase cancellations. Lowest frequencies are problematic for solving the phase.

@@EClipChannel thanks for the answer! Yes, i get it, but how important to keep all basstails (2/16, 3/16 and 4/16) similiar?
@michaelevdokimov60913 жыл бұрын
I mean not waveform of 1/16th, but waveforms of 4/64th of every bassnotes (end part of bassnotes)!

I do not understand whatare you asking. Sorry. 1/16 and 4/64 is the same. Please be more clear in order to get answer.

@@michaelevdokimov6091 no it doesn't matter. This technique is used by lots of pros iv seen daydin cut the first harmonic of the first bass note. Just make sure the transient of the first bass note doesn't get moved off the grid. Read my other coment for a way to do it with melodic bass. Peace

We can check together nothing happen.... SOunds the same, Oscillations K&B are the same. It's like a Dj turning up a knob but nothing changes. But still a good content video.

Why not just move the first note of the base over, and line the phase with the kick? That's the way i do it.
@EClipChannel2 жыл бұрын
Move the note will change the groove. Second thing is that the oscilations need to match, and if they are same then it would be fine, but if they are not the same then it wouldn’t do any good.

IF I CAN'T HEAR A DIFFERENCE WHY WHOULD I DO AN EXTRA WORK FOR THE SAME RESULT?
@EClipChannel3 жыл бұрын
I don't know why would you do anything. I never said that you should do anything. In those videos, I am trying to show the processes that I do and the techniques that I apply. If someone like the results I get, they can see how I come to that point. What are you going to do, It's totally up to you. When it comes to sound design, mixing, and generally all processes regarding the audio, nothing is mandatory. There are unlimited ways to get the results you are looking for.

I dont understand this. Every video I've seen has always said to not have ANY bass overlapping with the kick at all. So why are you doing that here?

dooing what?

@@EClipChannel why does your bass overlap the tail of the kick? It goes against every video ive seen. im absolutely not saying you're wrong. Im just confused because it goes against what ive been taught and im trying to understand.
@EClipChannel2 жыл бұрын
@@Gino_567 1. Well, if you remove the bass from the kick tail area, you will stay with only 2 notes of the bass, which is ok if you like the groove like that. But I guess that everyone would like to change the groove from time to time and not have exactly the same groove in each track. 2. If you remove the kick tail from the area of the first bassline note, they you get a short and really thin kick. Low frequencies need more time to oscillate, and if you want a powerful kick in the low end (everybody wants that), then you need to use a longer kick. So now we are coming to the situation where somebody wats to have a strong first note of the bassline, as that person might like that type of groove, but also would like to have a powerful kick!!! So now, we come to the point of this video. Sound Design is an extremely important segment of producing electronic music, and some situations might be hard to solve, like this one. In this video, I offer a solution to the problem and I have shown the techniques how to achieve that.

why so complicated? can you nit just send a sidechain from the kick to the node in pro-q?
@EClipChannel2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. But I do recommend to do full testing of this approach. What you get with it and what you lose, then make a decition should you use this method or not.
