The pricing aside, did any of these expansions offer the wash that was provided as an option for the original KS campaign of 2021? In other words, will these expansions match those who already own the deluxe KS version? I wasn't even aware they were releasing the expansions and now realize they avoided/bypassed a crowd-funding approach (and apparently there were a number of production issues which significantly delayed the expected delivery of pre-orders). Thanks for providing your thoughts about other aspects of the expansion quality.

Did you know that Eclipse is coming to Steam? It looks like a port of the old iPad game, but still. Nice review of the factions. I used to really enjoy Wardens in New Dawn, but they got a big nerf with respect to Discovery Tiles. TheLyrans are definitely an interesting species. I’ve seen them in play three times now. In two out of three games a player didn’t get that extra disc. It feels like if you can last to the endgame while building a shrine every turn (or on every turn after the first with an extra build) then that disc is a little reward. It will help balance that endgame economy.

@@BoardOfItReviews It releases on November 15. No pricing available yet. The Lyrans actually got improvements over the original version. The shrines giving the rewards makes them very powerful. The risk for them is still each shrine being a VP. It makes each sector taken away a much bigger swing.

I disagree, it adds asymmetry to another level. The Board games hobby is a vow of poverty! 😅 Eclipse is quicker and better than STA and Quicker and less random than TI4: PoK so is our favorite 4x wargame 👌🏻

Nice review. I have everything for Eclipse and love the game, but just not interested in getting either of these expansions. It’s too bad the quality doesn’t match the base game (e.g., I’ve read the ships don’t fit on the stands unless you drill a bigger hole). We simply don’t get it to the table enough to justify paying for the additional races.

I've also heard that, but I actually didn't realize you could even get stands (or forgot) until I read about the issue. Yea, that's another good point we didn't mention - how often you will use them is a major consideration.

I prefer smaller changes in game play like with these Eclipse factions. I have played a little of Root, but there are some factions I would never want to play with. Too different and too fiddly, at least for my liking.
