ECM - How to clean the brew group.

In this video, ECM shows you how to clean a brew group.
We are using a Mechanika IV Profi (rotary pump) - part of the ECM family.
You require: One blind filter and either ECM cleaning powder or ECM cleaning tablets.
01) Insert the blind filter into the portafilter.
02) Fill the cleaning solution into the blind filter.
03) Clamp the portafilter into the brew group. Repeat the following process 5 times: Start the flush. Lower the brew group lever half-way and let soak for 10 seconds. Lower the brew group lever slowly so remaining water can be flushed from the release valve. 04) Unclamp the portafilter and clean it.
05) Re-insert the portafilter and flush 5 times as shown.
06) Repeat the cleaning about every 150 cups brewed.

Do you fill the blind filter with powder and run it 5x or just 1x and flush with water only 5x?

Hi, My Synchronika’s brew group lever got harder to pull after a few cleanings, and there is a slight squeaking noise at the start of the extraction. Should/Can I grease/lubricate the brew lever?

Don't backflush with cleaning powder too often. I had the same problem and just reduced the backflushing. Only like once or twice in the evening and every two weeks with cleaning powder.

That’s why you pull a blank espresso shot afterwards. You removed the oils (coffee bean) so pull a shot will then put some of the coffee oils back into the mechanisms and good to go. You will hear squeak stop after a shot or two.

Thx. You deviate from the instructions that came with my machine.... And, the coffee starts tadting off after 50 brews, so 150 is just not practical.
