ECM replacement: Cadillac CTS

Anyone not able to take the key out: no need to remove the plastic covers to release the key. There's a small hole covered with rubber plug, simply take it out and insert a flat head screwdriver to depress the button which releases the key. Hope this helps people out there.

I have on '06 CTS 2.8L and if you're having issues with the key getting stuck you don't have to take off the whole plastic around the steering wheel. There's a small whole in the plastic where you can stick like a mechanical pencil up there and hit the release latch to get the key out.

You can get key out without removing the cover. Under steering wheel you can feel 2 holes, pick the hole closet to you when sitting in car. Take an exalted knife or small flat head screw diver and take out the tab in the hole. Take a long skinny screwdriver, I use a small hex end screwdriver and push it up in. You can feel the button push up. Then turn key and take it out.

My 08 CTS doesn’t wanna connect or link to a obd scanner so that I can read the codes for my Cadillac. I heard it’s the ecm. My car sometimes doesn’t want to turn on and it sometimes takes time to catch up to high speed when I press on the gas pedal.

had a friend bring his 05 cts over with this problem. i had a tough time believing that ECM is just failing. After intense t/s. i found communication wires shorted with power wire and grounds. driver left foot kick panel and body chaffed wires together. looks like it was design problem. you have to remove the panel in order to see chaffing.

Did the ecm drain your battery out I have the same problem but for some reason the battery dies and I wanna know if it did it to yours too ??????

Happens to me with battery drain... I read that if you can do an OBD2 scan, then the problem is not your ECM. Also, I had a speaker static sound and PHONE on the display was left on... Still trying to figure out how this happened.

No worries! I was having a hard time and spent a few days researching different cadillac forms and videos online to try and find a solution. The ECM seemed to be the common denominator, especially if you got all the recalls taken care of. It will save you a lot of money vs what the shops will try and get you to spend. It's really simple too. I don't have extensive experience working on cars and I was able to get it done in about an hour.

My 05 cts turns on and i can drive it and take the keys out just fine but the engine does not perform right and my car shakes when i reach high rpms at high speed , car feels like it doesn't wanna go sometimes, tachometer bouncing up and down when idling, engine light on and it flashes sometimes.

@Favuzza Realty took it to a guy, and turns out putting a new ecm fixed it as he suggested. Seems ecm failure is more common on this car than others

Marc M Did you have to do a relearn sequence after replacing the ECM? I ordered one yesterday and they say it’s plug & play but, after reading so posts most had to do some type of relearning sequence. I have the same yr 2005’ was pulling a code PO203 & PO303. @@smokinjoes9383 yes I couldn't start the car until I did the relearn procedure. It took me a few tries, I used some KZbin videos to assist me with that. Search for "cts ecu program part 1". Before the repair I was also getting misfire codes as well but i don't remeber the numbers exactly. it seems these misfires were caused by the faulty ecm rather than bad plugs/coils etc

@@4markie thanks bro for sharing my car shaked and i get misfire and bad fuel injector i have replaced fuel injector,spark plug, and the coil i moved the coils around as well and nothing i will now replace the ecm, like tons of websites say and ill see what happens

After you installed your new ECM did you have to do anything besides the key reprogram to get the new ECM to start working? I just installed one from flagship, reprogrammed my key, and its still having all of the same ECM issues - gauges don't work, theft system is active, key wont come out of ignition.

Could be in my head but after reading other reviews it seems like thats their MO. But $360 for a pre-flashed ECM? I'll put up with a small hassle for that price any day.

Shit bro you didn't even have to take steering wheel cover off did you? There's supposed to be a little white tab you pop off underneath steering wheel and insert like a pen or skinny screw driver and key will pop out.
