i was on ecmo for about a month in a half, once i was put on ecmo i actualy got worse and had kidney failure, ARDS, and Propofol infusion syndrome and phneumonia 2 more times. i finally started recovering. I am sorry to say that it is a difficult road ahead but it takes time. i know that you may not want to hear that but that is the truth of it. just keep talking to him. while i was out my dream or delirium was centered around my family and when i talked to my wife about this afterwards she was telling me that she would talk to me about the stuff i was dreaming. Also when he does come to, he will be very confused and the Delirium and halucinations that he will have for a few weeks afterwards are going to be very real for him, so if he says or acts strange he is reacting to delirium or halucinations that he is having or had. I quite litterally was a confused mess for several weeks after i woke up. this is getting long and i think ive passed on what i think is the some of the most important info that i can remember. Update: My sister was on ECMO from January 2nd to about January 19. She was on 100% oxygen with ECMO acting as her lungs & on the ventilator intubated. They took off her intubation and did a Trach instead. They started to decrease the paralytic slowly & then the sedation very slowly. My sister developed blood clots, which resulted in the ECMO sites to be full of them. They had 2 options by Jan 18th - Either to remove the ECMO completely and see how she does on her own with ventilation - or put in a new ECMO - risking her life once again. They took her off ECMO - we are on Jan 23rd now and she has been stable and initiating her breaths with help from the ventilation. It is extremely important that they wean your ECMO loved ones slowly so they are better at stabilizing. Without this machine my sister wouldn't be here today. She developed ARDS, Covid Pneumonia, and many other infections, & blood clots. This machine has saved her life, and now she is off it. I pray she stays off it and successfully weans off the ventilator. She's 28, no past medical conditions except for pneumonia. Have hope - she had a 10% survival rate on this machine. We held on to that for dear life, but no one is more powerful than Jehovah God, and if he saves them then they have a 100% chance. Do not lose faith - there are miracles everywhere. I am praying for any of you who have to start this journey. We will get through this ❤

Hey guys! An update since I know there may be many of you out there going through this. My sister woke up, she is improving. They found a "fungal" infection that kept getting worse - the CT (CAT?) can of her lungs showed a white mass that wasn't going away with antibacterials/antifungals. So the thoracic team did open chest surgery and removed 5% of her lung tissue, in which they found the white mass to be a clump of clots becoming infected. Since then, my sisters O2 has gotten better, she is now off the ventilator and is just receiving oxygen through her trach. I was able to see her and video call her children, she had a beautiful smile - but she is not able to talk and is very restless. Her next steps are recovery and full removal of the chest tubes (prevention of a pneumothorax due to the chest lung surgery. I hope and pray for your loved ones to be okay, hang on. Please don't give up ❤

@djnoneofyourbusiness5252 жыл бұрын
I could see why- my mom died from COVID and her condition was so critical, her doctor and nurses advised against putting her on a ventilator. Her heart was getting weaker and they said she’d either die during intubation (in intense pain and stress) or her body would eventually give out on the ventilator. Our only choice was comfort care.. Unfortunately, antibodies, ventilator, ECMO and any other treatment used to treat this virus isn’t always enough.
