ECO Gameplay - Log Cabin Build, Ep1

I'm playing the game ECO Global Survival! Follow along as I explore the initial elements of ECO gameplay!
In this episode of ECO, I'm getting accustomed to the basics of the game ECO and work to cut trees down to set up a log cabin build! We must be careful though - in ECO, the damage you cause to the ecosystem has lasting effects. In ECO, the ecosystem, and it's care, make up a very important aspect of the game.

ECO will often be compared to other games in the genre. Many will say ECO is like other games like Minecraft, but the elements here focused on the ecosystem, laws and leadership make it stand out in big ways.
ECO Gameplay Description:
Eco is an online game where players must collaborate to build a civilization in a world where everything they do affects the environment. All resources come from a simulated ecosystem, with thousands of plants and animals simulating 24/7. Work together in ECO through the player-run government and economy to build the technology to stop a meteor on a collision course with the planet, without polluting the world and killing it off in the process before that even happens.

***** there going to have a hard time getting people to buy it at a high price. the point is to sell it cheaper during development to get people to want to try it. other ppl see that and also want to try it because of the low price more people want to buy it there fore they get the same amount of money and more people playing. then at release once word is out the game goes back to full price and then people know what there getting. you never should charge that much for early build for a game.

This definitely looks like a really cool game, especially that it's targeted at kids yet can be played by adults too. It also makes you think about what you're doing and putting simple laws into effect that the community on the server agrees on sounds pretty neat. Ofc it could be bad if you have a majority of people on the server who are jerks. Although, I think that the game would be self policing, just by it's nature. If you make too many outrageous laws then it could kill off the ecosystem and basically lose the game for everyone. Therefore killing the fun for everybody. Co-operation is key. Sounds great. Can't wait to see more. Keep up the good work Weem and also the devs of this game. Looking good everybody! Later.

Except you can't really die, and the only threat is a big stupid contrived meteor event and nagware elements. :p I'd rather the game focus more on basic survival, sustainability, and function building, similar to how you can make working machines in Minecraft using redstone, but maybe using more realistic elements, like water, wind, geo, solar, and steam power. There are mills in the game (water and wind powered), but they don't actually do anything mechanically in the game, so you don't get to really build anything, just abstractly unlock tech trees and process crafting material. The main thing this game has going for it is a basic working ecosystem, but it's obscured by the rest of the game and gameplay, which let's be honest, is mostly just grinding to unlock things. "Team building," some might say, or an exercise in frustration and futility. Real world practice, I suppose. I really want to like this game, but I like it a lot more in theory than in practice. There just isn't really much of an actual game here. Maybe some of this can be sorted out as the game develops, but I think they're already on the wrong track for this game to be what I hoped it would be when I first heard about it.

The majority of people can't. This game's concept is wonderful. Sadly, the players aren't, they never are. Laws and rules can be and will be broken, even if enforced, there will always be those who just do not care. I have seen it time and time again, there is no evidence, yet, that a law system will actually work.

I really feel like in these kinds of games, it's best to have a private server to play with friends etc. Conflict is great, and could be fun for sure, but even on a server with friends there will be enough disagreement to make enacting laws not an automatic thing, but you can better avoid those who simply want to troll everyone else.

$40 for a barely working alpha is ridiculous. You know how much was minecraft way back in alpha? $5. And yet it worked out fine for them. I don't get why indie developers lock out people who would give a chance for their game if it were cheaper, like a reasonably $5-10 price for alpha, maybe words could spread about the game an it could get more well known. I say this because this is the first time I hear about this game, and the concept seems interesting, but the price just dropped the whole game for me. Also, simulating an ecosystem is a very bold claim, especially if they want it to be used in classroom and etc. I wonder if any of them is an ecologist?

I've played some of the early game recently. The volume of 10 means you build a room with an internal area of 3x3 (which is 5x5 with the walls) and then the doorway counts as one square, giving you a total volume of 10 squares. A roof is required, but a dirt floor is fine. Now, the game puts a limit of two workbenches per room, but you can't actually fit two workbenches in a 3x3 area, so you end up wanting at least a 4x3 room. Fortunately, it doesn't cost anything to move walls, so you don't necessarily need to plan ahead about stuff like that.

What an interesting concept. I've gotta say I love the Unity graphics (well, looks like Unity at least) in a Minecraft clone. Other games like Tug or Rising World don't seem to do all that well but this could actually be Minecraft 2. Of course I need a lot more info before making sure and the modding community seriously inversted in it, like Minecraft but, fingers crossed. The lighting in this game looks amazing! I'm kinda skeptical about the $40 price as well. More videos would be welcome and even some more after you return, Mike. Enjoy your vacation :)

The game is pretty detailed when it comes to systems that it has in place, you can actually see all the statistics about everything happening in the world, like pollution and animal population, on top of that players can make "laws" to prevent you from lets say killing off all the deer. The crafting and skills is pretty interesting as well there is a built in barter system were players can go to your place of work in the game and request to use your crafting benches or even request items from you to work on.

I wish someone would make a game that is a bit like Car Mechanic Simulator, but it's a survival game that is heavily physics oriented. Like you would have to build a house with architecturally accurate mechanics.

Only just across this game, can see the Minecraft comparisons but I prefer the idea of this to Minecraft, different system, got an obvious ecological idea behind it, growth, evolution etc

Man, this game looks awesome it's just what I'm looking for, a game similar to Minecraft so I'm talking survival, crafting, exploring building and of course fighting amin Minecraft is dying and I'm looking for a game that can take it's place and this is looking promising but they have to lower the price and they should make the world bigger, but apart from those things its a really good game. Oh and good vid weemcast keep it up.
