Every week, Eco India brings you stories that inspire you to build a cleaner, greener and better tomorrow.
In the mountains of Himachal Pradesh, centuries’ old construction traditions such as Pahadi architecture and the Kath Kuni technique use locally sourced natural materials. The benefits of these approaches are more relevant than ever.

We need to urgently formulate laws concerning new constructions/dams in all Himalayan states. There's a reason why ancient structures from JK to AR have withstood centuries of floods, landslides and tectonic activities. Even if they failed, they did in a way where human loss was minimized.

This matter urgently needs to be addressed, have been visiting shimla since childhood but the way these new building has changed the place it definitely isn't for good. We need more sustainable buildings & less of these eyesores that are not even built well & are dangerous. Some amazing form of work from these local boys👍👍. Would appreciate if you can share their details here please.

V encouraging to see design that is sustainable, resilient, beautiful, comfortable, and affordable! May the call for big picture planning be taken seriously -- sometimes it's not the construction of the houses, it's where they were located and damage done to the environment, such as disruption of natural waterways. Keep up this excellent reporting!
