I lived in Timor in my childhood from 1953-1958 . I m portuguese daughter of a portuguese militar. I lived in Aileu and Díli (Lahan and Taibesse) I went in 1957 to the Atauro Island . I loved to see your vídeo I m very sad looking how Dili and Aileu is now .

There are Timorese people studying and working overseas in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Portugal and more but UK has the most communities of Timorese then Australia and followed by South Korea. I think you missed the most important thing to do which is to snorkel or dive in the protected (tara bandu) areas. Atauro is best known for its marine life. You would’ve been amazed! Anyways, nice videos! You got +1 subscriber here 🫡

Agreed. But unfortunately I had only 1 day there and planed was to explore island itself as much as I can instead. But I'm amazed by the clear water and pristine beaches, as well! Never seen such clean nature!

Hello! Timor is least popular travel destination with a rich history so I was curious to come and learn about it!

The little town of Vila has some shops of hand crafted items, but it is a little more than that. The women have a cooperative which gives the women employment. They make a few items, but the specialty is dolls, and like Cabbage Patch dolls, each doll is different. It is worth visiting to look at the women working and support the work they do.

Other beaches mostly densely populated with tourists... Also I'm glad that reef around Atauro is alive which makes water there extremely clean and I don't remember I've seen anywhere else in the world such pristine beaches and sea colors. Next time I want to go to Jaco Island to see and compare.

Thank you! The boat transfer is included in the hotel price, which was around $200 a night. But if you're talking about small boat to north of Atauro - it was $70 😅

I think it was very disappointing trip for you because they charged you more . I agree when you said it is like robbery . If Atauro people want to develop tourism industry they should not rip people off by charging huge amount of money for the short journey. Otherwise tourist would not come to visit .

Wasn't disappointing for me because I got experience and enjoyed the trip and also supported locals (can consider it as a donation). Money will save up next months at home then. The prices are HUGE because there is a monopoly - only one business to provide the service and no competition to reduce prices. In hotels, tours, flights - same situation with lack of competition which drives prices very high... Will get better over the years, I believe.
