In this video, I cover six Eco-villages that exist in the US... I hope you're inspired by these communities and enjoy the information!
Check out my new book to access more detailed info about the eco-villages and organis farming :)

Thank you for sharing this. I originally went to law school because I wanted to help people. Unfortunately, my experience working in law has been hard on my heart, mind, body and soul. These days I feel a strong draw to get back to the earth and to my self. I feel a strong draw to live in a co-housing community.

In this pandemic, the people I know who are thriving the best are the ones living in community. You're smart, not insane. Living in ecovillages creates resilience in the face of disasters--you know where your food, water, and utilities are coming from, nobody's going to take your shelter from you, and you can shelter in place with cool people and room to walk around. You've got each other's backs. Go for it!

I lived at the Arcosanti project, and Lost Valley. The issue between organization and productivity is one of the toughest issues in the long term viability of ecovillages. I also personally avoided places with spiritual or anti-alcohol type policies. Not because I'm anti those but because I don't like people telling me how to live based on their current philosophy; suffice to say I've seen alot of hypocrisy around those issues and I prefer a live and let live, and work together.

Marvelous ride across America. Let's make more of these communities. I was thinking today about bicycling across the U.S. and then it dawned on me that what I would really like to see is a continuous expansive of eco-villages, regenerative mini-farms, homesteads, and large gardens connected from one side of the country to the other. Thanks for including eco-villages from different climate zones. I'm looking in Arizona and New Mexico for a place to return to more farming and trees and stop the spread of desert. So cool. thanks for sharing. Peace and health.

Many of us think of love as a strong emotion, a feeling we have for another person. Take a wholly different and life-enriching approach to love. Love is something you "do", something you give freely from the heart. Learn how to express yourself nakedly and honestly to your partner, friends, or family, for no other purpose than to reveal what's present or alive in you. Discover what thousands of people around the world already know: A heart to heart connection strengthened by joyfully giving and receiving from the heart. Is that love you longing to experience?

I'm moving to an intentional community in Hawaii soon, and had some anxiety about it. I thank you for this video because it reminded me of why I was doing what I was doing in the first place. I did once visit more of a religious community once in California and it scared me off of this idea, but this helped me remember there are many that are truly created to live in harmony with nature and each other and it can work out and be beautiful. I wish there was a community in South Utah or North Arizona in a tree and vegetation area. I am a fan of canyons but would like to be in a mountain or forest area near some water for homesteading and gardening purposes. I would like to be able to purchase my own little 0.3 acre and participate in a community sharing my skills teaching French, Spanish, Philosophy, macrame, knitting, some music or dance, living close to nature, etc. I do love my glass of red wine with food, because I am French Canadian, so no alcohol prohibition for me. It was likely "single family zoned" the entire time and they built things they should have got permits for. Lots of places use that kind of zoning to keep out poor people. With a big property like that'd you'd have to subdivide I think but that would be a pain

I appreciate that you pointed out that most of these places ban alcohol. At least now I know which ones to avoid. I rarely drink (I prefer to cook with alcohol) though telling me I *cannot* do so in my own home speaks volumes about the level of control these communities exert on their American citizens. With all of the screening going on, you'd think they'd be able to distinguish between responsible and irresponsible drinkers.

@Subtle Nature I agree. An Autonomous Zone is not an environment conducive to a sustainable community. At the same time, a cold beer or a glass of lemonade with a shot of tequila at the end of a hard day of physical labor eases the muscles. Not to mention that one cannot make tinctures without alcohol. As I said, it's about being responsible. Telling residents that they *cannot* have alcohol says that the community *does not* trust its members to be responsible for themselves and their behavior; a community without trust is no community at all.

Wonderful coverage on all of the ecovillages you visited, Brittny, thank you so much! I live in Tucson, which is less than an hour's drive from the Avalon Gardens. Have you ever visited the Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage community in Missouri? I've subscribed to their newsletter for quite some time now. I understand they have their own monetary system. My oldest friends and some family members and I have been contemplating starting a community as well; I am currently evaluating some land near the Catalina Mountains. Our goal is to "green" the desert like Geoff Lawton has. :)

There is no human dairy. I myself was a goat and sheep dairy farmer on a small romantic farm. On every dairy farm, you will always have 2 problems: 1) Once a year, in spring the new babies (cows, sheep, goats) are being born. 50 % are male. Male animals are useless for farmers. No farm is a sanctuary and the male animals are being sold for slaughter. In this sense, every vegetarian is responsible for the slaughtering of male animals. Ether right after birth or after a couple of weeks like the veal calves. 2) As a dairy farmer, you will always separate the mother from her baby to get out the most. That causes a lot of pain to the babies who grow up without their mothers. Cow mothers love their babies the same as any other mother. They want to protect their babies and every separation causes trauma and pain. ------> Therefore I am calling all spiritual people to not consume any animal milk anymore. This is part of the darkness, of a world of suffering, suppression, control, and confinement. ♡ ♡ ♡ Change to plant-based milk like oat-, soy-, rice-, almond, or other nut milk. And no, soy does not destroy the rainforest. The rainforest is cut down to feed the billions of animals in animal agriculture. Only 6 % of the globals soy is for human consumption. ♡♡♡

Love the idea but hate the selection process. U must conform to the rest of the group to be accepted. These things only work among family and friends, no one outside of those group types will EVER fit in. It would be a constant process of judging the new members and how they would choose to live. Not a fan of this for joining. I would suggest that if this lifestyle appeals to you, form one yourself instead of putting yourself under the judgment of others. And they still have outside jobs? What’s the point of an eco village if u still have to work outside the camp? They aren’t doing it right.
