This is an excellent initial comparison and really helped me make my decision. Now that it's been a year, and a lot of people have had time with both units, and many excellent reviews, I think I can summarize: pluses for Iceco 1) Iceco is built more rugged for overlanding, 2) Iceco is more reliable (brand name compressor, good reputation, Ecoflow had many thermistor problems hopefully solved), 3) Iceco has more interior volume, 4) Iceco has better insulation (according to multiple tests from multiple reviews, but the difference isn't massive). Pluses for Ecoflow 1) Built in battery is convenient for moving cooler from place to place without cords 2) Makes Ice 3) Door easier to open in cramped quarters 4) More powerful compressor cools down faster 5) Unit is physically much smaller and overall may be a more efficient use of space (more high tech, thinner insulation, thoughtful storage of divider, etc). Overall my conclusion is that for an overlander offroad and using a fridge rack, the Iceco is the clear winner; however I am a van guy, not too hard on my gear, and like to tote my fridge around onto beaches and into the woods and such; I'm more about the comfort and convenience, so the Ecoflow is the winner. The design is just more practical for my use.

Thank you for taking the time to compare these two fridges. A deal breaker for me is the lack of wheels in the ICECO, which I would have preferred. They are hefty, but I would have preferred the larger capacity, the looks, the price, but to roll it there is yet another contraption to buy and pack, in addition to the external battery. I have ordered the Ecoflow, and hope that the space is going to be sufficient for a 3 day camping trip, although I doubt it. Once again, thank you.

@@Wuldier I actually never use the low power mode. I always keep it on the max setting, and it pulls like 60-70 watts from the 12V plug on my Bluetti AC200P battery. But as far as how long the battery will last, it all depends on the ambient temperature and how often the compressor has to turn on, and how low you set the temperature to. If you're using it in 90 degree weather and the compressor runs continuously, your battery will probably last 8-10 hours.
@Wuldier

@@djp1234 thanks for the reply, yeah for me this is why these other brands are more costly as they can keep your stuff cold while using just a fraction of the voltage to do so, my 550wh Bluetti would run one of them in the video for a few days lol, I just can’t bring myself to buy one for a grand, that’s just disgusting lol.

Great comparison! I shopped those two a lot and went with the Glacier but wanted that APL55, it was too wide for it's home in my vehicle though. I just returned from a 10 day camp trip and was completely pleased with the EcoFlow, that battery is awesome and to be able to solar charge (and run) with it is super convenient. Was also very pleased with it's low power consumption wich I was concerned about compared to Iceco. Having got early bird pricing got me into it and happy for it. I wasn't concerned about the ice maker but it's nice to have.

As a new Gladiator owner and tonneau cover/bed rack camper. The ecoflow is a huge plus, with its own battery power and overall more compact size. A fridge is the next step in my camping setup. for weekends away I think the the Ecoflow is fine for 1 or 2 people.

Thanks for your unbiased opinion on both fridges, after watching your video I went with the Iceco APL55 after watching you struggling with opening the EcoFlow. I have small kids and the ICECO easy opening and non pinching lid along with the overall aesthetics made it an easy choice for me. We've been on several roadtrips in my Chevy Avalanche and this thing OUTPERFORMED my expectations. The APL55 has a great slider that fits under my tonneau cover and delivers 100% access with the lid completely open. I briefly had an Iceco VP45ProS. The lid opens one the long axis *and* from either side. It was really nice. Only problem for me was that I was sleeping in the back of my 4Runner, where the refrigerator was, and I'm someone who is very easily bothered by noise. The compressor turning on and off throughout the night bothered me. But other than that, it was a great product... and the lid didn't open the same way as the Iceco you have in this video.

Substantially Better built iceco but cheaper than ecoflows. The iceco does have a battery that is magnetic which sticks any where on the iceco. I trust iceco i have 2 of them. I power them with ecoflows products when camping lol. Honestly as of now out of these 2 I would go for iceco the ice maker on the ecoflow is a waste of space . especially because iceo uses a danfoss compressor which is what arb, engel and once dometic uses or used. Next iteration could be a different story.

I like that the ecoflow can run off battery where as the iceco doesn’t. So when I need to park my bronco for a while. Doesn’t run down my starter battery. My bronco has a 120watt inverter so when I am running. It can charge the ecoflow rather quickly. It also can make ice. I love ice!

Everything is a tradeoff. The larger outer dimensions of the Iceco are due to the use of thicker insulation which reduces the amount of power needed to maintain a stable inside temperature. Iceco offers an external battery that magnetically sticks to the side for $255 that allows the fringe to run remotely for 24 hours. The Ecoflow is smaller but other reviews I've seen say the ice maker doesn't work reliably and uses a lot power to make ice. So it's probably easier to buy a bag of ice for $3 and put in the freezer section than to try and make ice yourself. The Iceco is reported to operate quietly, have low power consumption relative to its capacity and it has a 5 year guarantee on the compressor.

The EcoFlow uses vacuum insulated panels for insulation. They’re several times more efficient for insulating than conventional insulation. Despite the walls being thinner on the Ecoflow, they’re 3 times as insulated as a standard Dometic.

@@I_Am_SciCurious While this is true, a number of reviewers have done power consumption tests on the EcoFlow and it's power consumption is only middle of the road not 3x better as you'd expect. It does seem to have pretty thin walls though so I guess it makes for a more efficient use of space. VIP panels are generally only available as rectancles so I'm guessing there are a lot of "gaps" filled with regular foam, which is why the thermal efficiency isn't spectacular.

Only thing I would have added is the fact the Iceco has a Danfoss compressor, while the Ecoflow has a no name chinese compressor. I know, Danfoss has lots of production in China, but a real Danfoss compressor is better in the long run, than a no name chinese one. That's my opinion at least. And I would have liked more details about the ice making needing the battery or the 120V for power!? I did not know that. I really like the ice making feature though. Great thing to have in the woods, when we fill up our Yeti Ramblers with water and ice. So you say that we can't make ice if it's connected to a 12V power source? But with a Ecoflow Delta 2 Max, it's ok I would presume?
@Casey250

It needs the battery in it or 120v power to make ice. If you plugged it into 110v on the Delta it will make ice with out the battery installed.

I'm considering buying a 12V fridge for camping. 1. While 80% of the time I camp for 4 days or less, on a few occasions I camp for 1-2 weeks. So I'm trying to eliminate the hassle of buying ice and ruin some of the food with the melted ice. I hope in the future, these reviews are more scientific data driven in terms of energy consumption, temp outside vs inside, etc.. Very objective. Also depending on the size of the fridge, when the energy consumption is reasonable or not. I would like to buy the biggest fridge (say 95L) but do I also need to spend another $2,500-$3,200 to buy the biggest portable power bank in the market? Two of the things I hope the technology evolve are; 1. I wish the divider can be moved to adjust the size of the fridge or the freezer. The shape are so odd, that I will need to change how I bring food. I bring all the meat prepped (cut, cleaned, seasoned) in the normal Rubbermaid Brilliance containers. I camp in groups, so everybody brings food for everybody. The same way a house fridge one day decided to add a wide and tall shelve for a gallon of milk and the 2L soda bottles, I hope the portable fridge companies try to standardize some features in terms of the size of the most popular food containers in the market. Or the normal size of the meat foam trays they use at the grocery stores. The movable and / or adjustable divider will make it easier. Or if fixed spaces, then make sure standard size food contains fit in easily. 2. If the biggest portable freeze energy consumption is so efficient that an 800W portable power bank is enough for a 4 days camping trip, that will be awesome.

Figure it out & share. When through about all of them. If your 90 + your compressor will be on ever 4 min & last 1-2 yr trick is put a bag ice 28-30 range give about 15 min cycle. About 2 yr box life. Tryed dometic 55 Swiss made, they only used polyurethane foam. Rubber foam, and it same as my 60 q yeti. Keep 1 bag ice 3-4 days. It's cycle every 20 min night 45 min and at lower temp 42 or at 28 double time. My bat. At 12.7 or barely used. In short insulation is all that matter, or compressor 1-2 yr, or less the humid days in a roll that cook it dead. Can't get rid of the heat w/ almost alway on. Best to add a bag ice fir help these days. So mean a plastic liner inside the iceco bottom can leak. And dual zone give you e range but also over work the compressor. Best one rande and cold 28-30 as the bottom will form ice and above is a ice box.
