A lot of info in this video on just about every aspect of how I am currently maintaining the 25 gallon lagoon reef tank. Even though it has only been a couple of weeks with these methods I am seeing promising results so far in growth and coloration of almost all the corals in this mixed reef. To clarify - I dose 10ml alk and 10ml of calcium b-ionic EVERYDAY.

Hey. I enjoy your vids. Interesting experience with red sea salt. That's all I've been using on my 4 month old 25g lagoon and have nothing but positive results. Corals are always happy after my weekly water change.

Thanks for watching! I just have the worse luck with salts this year. I just got some aquaforest reef salt from amazon a few weeks ago. Turns out it was made in 2016. PH in that was 6.5. I just cant win lol. I am def going fritz next batch and if that doesnt work its back to reef crystals.

I have had the same issue with IO having a high alk compared to my DT. With waterchanges now, I use muratic acid to bring down the alk in the water change to match my DT. Caution should be exercised though, for yourself and your DT. Do your research as in anything one says in this hobby. Great video.

I really like that horseshoe layout. Are you sure about the position of your montis? I would put them on the left side of your rockwork.
@MoeReefs
@MoeReefs 6 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure. A lot of stuff has over grown the frags and attached so I would have to break them to move them . Also the tank is so shallow there is not much room for anything else on that top rock.

You didn't have to say anything about the colours, those corals were popping! =)

Hey man your tank looks great! I’m really digging this setup. Nice 6 months. It’s pretty cool you know 10 mLs is your dosing levels in the ESV dude. With the RedSea I love that salt. I actually get the exact same parameters in ALk at 8.8-9 dkh when I do water changes. What I do is make my batch and heat the night before. The calcium is a bit different thou. It’s like450-490 water change day. You’ve helped me out in many ways and you continue to do so with your honest opinion with personal experience. I see you have the Sps in your tank how big was they when you first got them? Does the reef energy come in a powder form? Also how much reef roids to tank water do you mix? I agree your colors popping!
@MoeReefs
@MoeReefs 6 жыл бұрын
I have decided to stay away from red sea pro salt from now on. You may have better results. Check parameters of tank before and then after the water change to double make sure you are not alk swinging. Might be my batch of salt. After I am done doing water change with red sea pro salt, the bucket looks like it was nothing but kalkwasser top off water. Lots and lots of residue. I also would let it sit over night. I also tried to change it after a couple of hours to see if it made a difference. It didnt much. I add .1 ml of reef roids with the reef energy about 3 times a week. and I mix kent phytoplex about 2 times a week with reef energy. The dont make a powder form. If you are just doing only sps you should look into acropower rather than the reef energy.

This is about 4 months ago. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4nch5-CnpWdiZo close ups at around the 2 min mark. I got some good growth with seachem 2 part and I actually think it might have been better. ESV B-ionic has such great reviews but I honestly think we can do probably do better. Hectorisking Hinojosa is making miracles happen with kent 2 part and fritz salt. My lfs is using aquaforest 2 part and their corals are insane. So I will not be buying b-ionic after I run out again. It works. Just think it could be even better and my take eats a lot.

Moes Nano Reefs I definitely understand keep that tank happy brother it sure explodes when it’s happy apparently! I always mix my new buckets Red Sea. When I get home with my new purchase of RedSea salt. I take the lid off. Remove the content in the bucket that’s very well packed in a plastic bag. I then shake it in the bag to make sure it’s even mixed. Just my thinking. Then pour out the salt (content) into the bucket then toss the bag. I been checking water parameters the day before water change and test the new batch I mix to make sure it’s at levels close to safe. And some how it’s been the same. Although dkh after a week in my tank drops from 9 to 8.4 and when I mix a new batch it’s back at 9 dkh whereas the tank starts with on water change day. Hope that dosent stress the corals out since that what the tank use too. It’s almost like my water change is a dose all bu itself lol.. Acro Power is what I use too I did a unboxing on that a week ago my lps even grew off it in my 20 gallon.... You have a heap of good experience shared. You do the community right!

Thats why they say every tank is different. Even our tanks that are like twins almost. lol. But I have a different story with alk. I get huge swings if I dont maintain it. If I stop dosing, I will drop from 9dh to about 7dkh over night. I have no idea yet why. Just keep doing what im doing now. Keep my fingers crossed. A lot of times I make these good videos and 2 weeks later I am back again with some bad news. But so far so good. I actually like embarrassing myself and bringing on the bad news, its the best way to teach people what not to do and to get input on what you are doing wrong. And its almost better content on youtube than the good news. I know a lot of reefers here that just disappear for months and you KNOW they hit a bad spot and are not sharing. lol. I may have been doing saltwater longer but you are far ahead of where I was in the beginning. Dont worry, your tank is going to be great. I might get jealous in a couple of months.

Moes Nano Reefs Kinda late joining, but I had very few tiny corals and dkh dropped 1 per day. I recently went barebottom and my dkh usage is almost nothing, I think maybe 0.1dkh per day.

I have this JBJ 28 tank. I have a problem with this one type of greenhair algae. It's driving me crazy, my LED light is good, water parameters are good and my ro-di water is pristine. I can't figure out why this problem with hair-algea after 2 years of running, I don't over feed the tank. Can someone please help me with a thought on how to stop the plague of this algae

What return pump do (did?) you use on the tank? Do you always feed your fish frozen food? If not, how often do you use frozen compared to dry food? I seen you feed yours frozen so I just picked up some LRS Frenzy Nano to try out. I always feed dry, so fish still don't know what to make of it :)

I use a cobalt mj 1200 pump. I always fed them hikari frozen mysis and they love it. I once in a while drop some new life spectrum pellets and most of them will eat it but not all of them.

Moes Nano Reefs I have that pump in the garage from another tank, I’ll check that out... I threw out my NLS. I honestly think it’s hard on their guts, no proof just a feeling I get. Once in a while like you’re doing, is good I think. My favorite is Omega One pellets, it actually smells like seafood and looks like it was made from fish meat, and their ingredients list is like a seafood buffet. When my fish pass NLS, it’s like solid turds, when they pass Omega One it’s just a white dust puff. My clowns aren’t too thrilled about the frozen food right now, hopefully they’ll start eating it. How did you get your Jebao to take such a long pause between pump cycles?

@@MoeReefs Oh. I was hoping to steal some of that secret sauce you got going on. BTW I was mistaken, I thought you had a Prime, but looks like you have a Hydra.
@MoeReefs
@MoeReefs 6 жыл бұрын
@@THunt-ss4hy The secret sauce is keeping it simple. I used to dose a potion of different additives and my colors were great but the growth lacked. After I stopped falling for all the marketing crap and stopped dosing a mixture of stuff is when I started to see the best results. The only thing I dose now is aquaforest components for dosing calcium, alk, and magnesium and started seeing results with growth that exceeded my expectation. I think most 2 parts will do just as well but I am seeing the best results with aquaforest. Just keep it simple. Skimmer, carbon, 2 part dosing. And dont let phosphates get too high because thats when algae hell breaks loose but there are now easy ways to take care of that too.
@MoeReefs
@MoeReefs 6 жыл бұрын
And also... The big equipment like protein skimmer and media reactors is for nothing more than to extend my time between water changes. At the end of my 25 gallon I was going towards month and half water changes.
@THunt-ss4hy

@@MoeReefs My filtration is just filter pads and running eshopps skimmer 12hrs a day. Maybe run carbon for a few days a month, maybe. 3-4gal water change each 2-3weeks. Just went barebottom to try out. I have 1 clownfish and 1 tailspot blenny. Snails are keeping up with algae cause I never see any, but lots of snail poop. I have a doser w/ ESV 2 part, but my alk usage is very low now that the sandbed is gone. I have my ai prime at about 50 blues 30 white. I do Target or broadcast coral foods and dose aquavitro fuel twice a week. Torch and hammer look like their slowly trying to split. Zoa's and acans doing ok (acan lost rainbow color tho). No coralline, green star polyps shrunk and aren't growing. I never been able to register nitrate or phosphate on tests, maybe not enough fish right now? Never messed with carbon dosing, shouldn't need to with low no3 and po4 right? Or does it benefit either way?

Looks great! How is the small angel? Does he keep to himself? Doesn't pick on corals? Really like those! Also your corals are looking great! They look super healthy. You dose 10ML of A B? Weekly? I'm dosing Kent Marine nano A B 5ML Once a week. With great success. I also have the same tank also keep mix of corals soft and hard corals. Check out my videos some time. Keep it up! Looks great!
@MoeReefs

The angel is fed pretty well and I have not noticed any coral nipping and is very peaceful with all the other fish. I dose 10ML A and 10ML B every day to maintain the levels they are at now. Some 2 parts might be more potent. Thanks for the compliments. Checking out your channel now.

YES. Everyday! My tank is gobbling that stuff up. Im thinking it is very diluted so not so potent as other stuff. I wont know until I change to something else.
