I can't access the PDF, so I'm asking here. Was the performance of an economy under a populist leader vis a vis its synthetic doppelganger normalized against the performance of an economy under a non-populist leader vis a vis its synthetic doppelganger?

Doesn't this describe every single politician though?

The definition of populist in academia as described in this video seems at least at a first glance somewhat selective. By the definition shown here, someone claiming that i.e. all bad in a society comes from (fill in religious or whatever subgroup of a society here) isn't a populist as long as they don't focus their narrative on "the elites". This field is not my main area of expertise, but I would be curious as to why the given definition is widely used as opposed to a more broad definition.

How about mandatory accounting/finance in high schools? Oh yeah, don't forget planned obsolescence.

This video is very quick to assign causality where there is only correlation... I would also very strongly recommend examining your definitions of what constitutes a populist government. Very big difference between a populist government in statement and a populist government in action.
