New Wave History, in this episode with Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa dives deeper into the complex world of military businesses in Pakistan. She explains the operations of military's economic activities that have evolved over time and how military-run enterprises capitalize on state power and resources. Siddiqa also examines the political shifts that have allowed the military to maintain its control over governance.
Dr. Siddiqa traces the historical context of military businesses, focusing on how political shifts have facilitated the expansion of the military-run ventures. She reflects on the Musharraf era (1999-2007), during which the military's political and economic influence expanded significantly. The episode explores how the military transitioned from controlling the state to controlling governance, a shift that ensured the military’s enduring presence in politics, even as civilian governments took office.
Another theme explored by Dr. Siddiqa in this episode, is the military's growing involvement in the media industry, which serves as a critical tool for controlling narratives and public discourse. The military’s entry into media serves not only as an extension of its economic ventures but also as a way to ensure favorable coverage and manage its image in the public eye.

You are absolutely right. The Army Establishment has now become so overwhelmingly entrenched into the business and economy of the country, that it will be impossible to enmesh this super elite military generals. This is the reason, why all the taxes paid by the awaam is used for high salaries of the army and government, large maintained mansions, free electricity up to 2000 units, subsidised food supplies, expensive imported cars and foreign tours. There is practically no money for development and infrastructure in the country.

She could have added a prescription to Pakistan army's failures. It's about sending Pakistan army elite to America----the most successful nation in the world. In order to study American history. How 13 colonies became, in time, a 50-states nation? How America became the constitutional democracy with functioning judiciary along with Congress and the Executive. Had there been a military intervention in the democratic process, there wouldn't have been an I.M.F to subsidize the defeated army of Pakistan in all wars. Soldiers of Islam get paid by the tax-payers of U.S.A. Ever heard of this absurdity?

NOW, America is suffering from Pakistan type similar problems ie, public corruption. The police are increasingly violent and thuggish and break laws almost with impunity. The government is also increasingly corrupt. The courts have given the police and government officials immunity from prosecution under so called qualified immunity doctrine..

Wolf Spider webs are weakiest and easily destroyed but these cratures arduousely built. Wellfare is good ... ecnomic meltdown of the country in now inevitable due to 23 or 24 the episodes of burrowing and purchasing power wilting of the huge nation instead of competive capacity building and growth. Since nu professionalism in any civilian department in letter and spirit existed in requruitment and deliverables.

Unfortunately, we saw the rise of military intervention to new heights in Khan's era. Multi-million dollar construction projects were awarded either to FWO or NLC without bidding. Thank you Imran Khan

Let these businesses run by equity and list these businesses in the stock market so the tax money can be shared by government and military.

Stop living in Disney land and dreaming. Read the history. Pakistan was created due to struggles and sacrifices of Muslim civilians. While Pakistan army was a slave of British back then and now slave of U.S , pak army had zero role in independence. Pak army took orders from British empire to participate in WW1 and WW2 that brought down the Ottoman Empire which was a Muslim empire.
