Ecosia is the search engine that plants trees: ecosia.co/info
The importance of forests cannot be underestimated. We depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the water we drink. Forests provide habitats for animals and livelihoods for humans, prevent soil erosion and mitigate climate change.
But deforestation rates across the planet are putting our forests under threat. From the bushfires in Australia, to the slow destruction of the Amazon forest. Now more than ever, the world's forests need our attention.
Here are three simple ideas how we can help protect our forests:
Support indigenous groups or associations that help them defend themselves against outside pressures (like is the case, for example, with indigenous groups in the Amazon forest)
Consume less meat or consider following a plant-based diet: give the industry less reasons to clear new forests for cattle holding.
Inform yourself about reforestation and deforestation laws in your country: is your government counting monocultures as “forests” in their national count? How are they protecting forests and are they planning to restore depleted areas?
If you have more tips or ideas, please leave your comment under the video.
We are endlessly thankful to our tree planting partners around the world. Thanks to the trees powered by your searches, we can support them in reforestation efforts that are also helping protect standing forests.

And dairy and eggs. The soy mentioned in the video is used for meat, dairy and egg production. Going vegan is the single most effective way for each of us to minimize our environmental footprint. "According to the most comprehensive analysis of farming’s impact on the planet, plant-based food is most effective at combatting climate change. Oxford University researcher Joseph Poore, who led the study, said adopting a vegan diet is “the single biggest way to reduce your impact on planet Earth.” “A vegan diet is probably the single biggest way to reduce your impact on planet Earth, not just greenhouse gases, but global acidification, eutrophication, land use and water use.”. -Joseph Poore, Environmental Science Researcher, University of Oxford. The good thing about people staying at home from Coronavirus is how much cleaner the air and land water is getting!! Airplanes, cars, buses are not running in certain countries or the amount has decreased dramatically! So much co2 emissions are not put out in the atmosphere and ruining the environment as well as many animals. This is so healthy for the world and thank you Ecosia for encouraging living in a healthy natural world even more!!

Transportation is a major contributor to climate change, but the expert panel of the UN found that animal agriculture contributes more to climate change than all transportation combined! "Cattle-rearing generates more global warming greenhouse gases, as measured in CO2 equivalent, than transportation, and smarter production methods, including improved animal diets to reduce enteric fermentation and consequent methane emissions, are urgently needed, according to a new United Nations report released today." -UN web site Nov 29, 2006

"While the wildfires raging in the Amazon rainforest may constitute an “international crisis,” they are hardly an accident. The vast majority of the fires have been set by loggers and ranchers to clear land for cattle. The practice is on the rise, encouraged by Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s populist pro-business president, who is backed by the country’s so-called “beef caucus.” While this may be business as usual for Brazil’s beef farmers, the rest of the world is looking on in horror. So, for those wondering how they could help save the rainforest, known as “the planet’s lungs” for producing about 20% of the world’s oxygen, the answer may be simple. Eat less meat." -CNN

Indeed a great point, Tommaso! 🙂👍 Well, I think trees might be most suitable right now for other measures like keeping pace and grow a larger community. I wonder if Ecosia is familiar with the Ecosystem Restoration Camps that are opening up in different places around the world? Check out videos by Dr. John D Lui and just about any series on "permaculture". We need people to find their own nature (within) and begin healing, drawing down carbon, restoring soil, and finding ways to have a restorative economy rather than an extractive one. Time to give back and not take so much. Thank you Ecosia! So proud of the work you do!
