Fixed the car. Rear main seal failed. Replaced it with a proper G.M. one.

Great news! Would love to hear more about your oil choice/ oil change intervals, etc. Maybe also an update now that it's been another year? Best to you and great work!

I watched the whole series. Very informative! I have a 2005 Malibu base model with a 2.2 ecotec that I bought new. It currently has 209,000 miles on it. I am debating on weather or not to make it a project for me and my two sons.

I watched the whole series on the engine rebuild. I own a 2004 Classic also with the 2.2L Ecotec with 147K on it. I took a couple screenshots off the videos of an area on the head where some sort of cover is located. Mine has the same cover but mine has come loose from the head and is just dangling and is not covering the port it appears it should be covering. The attaching bolts are also missing. I'll leave a link to the screenshots and any info you can give me about the cover I refer to and the size of the attaching bolts would be very helpful.

That cover is a bracket that goes to a cooling tube around the back of the engine. the hole in the middle looks to serve no purpose, I'm guessing the hole is for an EGR valve for the California models. the thread size for the bolts are M6x1.0 (Metric). and are 5/8 inch long. Hope that helps.

Something like that is a b*tch to remove and repair, definitely go OE pet every time. Unless the OE part has a known failure point. Good video
