Ecotec Head Installation & Torque Sequence (Part 4)

Continued on the build for the Cobalt SS. Set the head on the block and torque down the studs to ARP SPECS OF 80 FT LBS. The two stage torque down sequence for factory head bolts however are: 1st stage is 22 lb ft of torque for all 10 head bolts. 2nd stage is 155 degrees for all 10 bolts. I have been using these video's over and over practically frame by frame and really want to thank you. 6 point sockets are better to avoid stripping since longer flat sides have more contact. The 12 point is just easier to catch with less rotation, especially in a tight location.

4:00...( if you are coming to this video for information about torquing down ARP head studs)....👉 that's for bolts... not studs....80lb/ft... with ARP lube..... for head studs

I'm rebuilding my engine. Whats the trick to getting that one camshaft out of that little housing opposite the timing chain? I can't seem to get mine out

You have to remove the 3 10mm bolts securing the cam cap for the hpfp to be able to get it off and remove the cam

Do the torx bolts need to be replaced? It looks like he used originals.

Yes it is recommended to replace all the head bolts including the torx. I did however reuse them, but do recommended replacing them as stated by manufacturer.

The head was going into a Cobalt SS turbocharged. It doesn't matter though, the head sequence and timing is the same for any 2.2L, 2.4L and 2.0L Ecotecs

by the way, you should never use a torque wrench well beyond the set torque like this or it will lose calibration quickly.

Yes thank you I went ahead and corrected the torque specs before final completion. I saw the paper with torque specs from arp after I submitted and went ahead and fixed the issue. Thank you for the correction non the less, I appreciate it!

And usually the ARP lube is not supposed to be applied to the threads on the deck end, only on the washers and bottom of the nuts are supposed get the lube.

luky98ification since I'm recording it and I also only work on it occasionally on the weekend because I work out of town. It has taken me about 8 months on the entire build along with getting parts in that I'm wanting to use.
