Four minutes in, I really love what the man says about us living in an ILLUSION of speed. That's it! Life is not all go go go like Americans tend to think. Life is rhythmic, paced, and cyclical. Nature always follows short periods of activity/disturbance with long periods of rest/regrowth.

I agree that it takes a bit of land to be really sustainable. Not sure what the amount is. Might be 1/4 acre per person? But even growing a few pots of vegetables on an apartment balcony is doing SOMETHING to help lighten the load elsewhere. If we all did the small things we could, it would add up to quite a difference.

In addition to my other response to your question I would say there isnt so much a signing up process. As |I understand it the usual 'way in' is to first visit and vonluteer in such communities, learning observing and building personal relationships with the villagers until moving in permanently is the natural feeling logical next step. There are a million different ways this can happen. it should be a naturally growing gradual relationship with the community.....in my opinion.

I would say to begin with, if you havent already, empower yourself with some relevant skills. consider perhaps a permaculture or organic food production course, or get some experience with low impact housing, there are lots of niches to suit whatever talents/experience/preference you may have. You will probably find this leads you to make coneections to people who may be envolved with eco-villages and will also give you something to offer as a productive villager....good luck my friend.

well, we all need a monitoring body for international law, it affects all of us. but we need it to be impartial, transparent, and pre-empting internal corruption. the UN needs a drastic reform (now!), but i don't think it should be completely erased, its role is crucial, even if its not fulfilling its role. ecovillages, from what i understand, aren't necessarily living by "superior morals to mainstream society" even if committing to good environmental ethics. each one's different.

This planet could support 2 to 3 times the population we have now if we would just get serious about healing the land we have destroyed. Permaculture has a solution to that problem. Vast tracts of land could be restored to the benefit of people and wildlife.

My friend, unfortunetly, things are not all that simple. If the population explanation doesn't seem right, for me, the one about sharing all is also utopian. There's much more than individual behaviors preventing us from living a better life. The way the economic system is organized creates a kind of structural prison that takes the problem of living free to another dimension. Yet, iniciatives like the ecovillages may be seeds to another living standard that may flourish in the future...

@gabrielpereyron Man doesn't know how to survive only what we are taught do we understand. Were did you get that meat? O the supermarket ok 90 percent of us can't survive in nature nor do we know how to. What we get in America comes from all around the world we wonder why we have the problems we do . Are expectations are high yet when given a plate to eat we want more than we need. How many of us give back? Yet sadly even with world problems there is enough food to take care of starving people.
