Cure for depression? The man doesn’t know what century he’s in. How do you think his family feels every fucking day? The folks that make these comments obviously don’t understand Alzheimer’s or dementia. It can be very hard on a family. It doesn’t matter about money or insurance. It’s exhausting.

I took care of my dad for 10 years almost in a similar state. My dad was very upset and hurt the whole time though. You can tell this man was a very patient, intelligent, hard working father. In this condition you can’t fake who you are. This man is a golden soul
@lola2659

And this is what people don’t get. Yes his children are amazing but the job is easier because of the type of man that he is. A narcissistic father would be worse if suffering from dementia. All that anger and viciousness would only manifest itself more without control. Grandpa was a good man in his youth. It really inspires me to be a good person whilst still young.

Amen to that. Most people don't have a clue to how difficult it can be taking care of someone. I did it for 12 years, While working a job & 3 years after retiring early from my job. My mother was blind, developed dementia & became bedridden. Oh, & by the way my mother's monthly check was around $ 600.00 a month. It's even more stressful when you have to work, don't have a Huge income or money in the bank. I gave up money to go ahead & RETIRE & take care of my mother. I still don't regret that decision. CAREGIVING is definitely not for Everyone.

If something put Dad in a nursing home- God forbid- he would not have the love and stimulation he has now. It has shown that if someone as functioning as he is forced to live with non-verbal, not mobile, and almost catatonic, they will soon go downhill. That could be from depression or despair.

Deb is so unhurried and matter of fact. Good for her. Not everyone can step into someone else’s life of dealing with dementia and be respectful and calm. It must be a relief to have someone who is at ease with Ed rather than be another person to be managed. Ed was enjoying having her too.

I love watching your dad it reminds me of trying to talk to my husband that had dementia Alzheimer's. Trying to bring their minds back to the present time. My husband lived in his 40s. He always said he was 40 something when you would ask him anything about his age. He passed in 2021. When he was 80. Now my sister and I take care of our Mom with dementia. She is 92. It is so sad watching them that were our strong ones in our lives turn into the weak ones. Mom gets around pretty good. But she broke her hip earlier this year and has to use a walker now. We find it harder on her to move back and forth from her house to mine so my sister lives with her and I go there to give my sister time away. You and your family are doing a great thing for your dad. He is a very loveable man.

One thing he always remembers the year that he was born. Grandpa always brings a smile to my face, and I am one who doesn't smile often . Love you, Grandpa ❤
