Some of the visual gags and sheer force impact shots (injuries) are insanely good. Any reality breaking moment or character going on a rampage really gets its force translated into motion perfectly. The sound effects are great too, a gag unto themselves. That's not even getting into some of the adult themed jokes and humor, which are absolutely there. I don't look back on many childhood shows fondly, a lot of them seem cringey now or seem to peddle politicized messages... but Ed, Edd, and Eddy holds up completely, much like early Spongebob episodes.

To be fair, they met each other first. Double D moved to the Cul-De-Sac at 3 - 4 years and Eddy and Ed were already hanging out and talking quite closely to each other, implying their friendship preceded Double D's arrival by arguably their whole lives up until the age of 3 - 4. I think it just shows that little bit more they've grown up with each other. It's also because even if Eddy has more common sense, Ed and Eddy are on a closer intellectual level, whereas Double D is pretty much unmatched in the intelligence department by anyone his age and likely many people many years older than him.
