This is one of the best anime and manga in history. And you have so much to experience yet with this series.

100% this is my favorite anime. I watched Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) and Conqueror of Shamballa (2005) before Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood aired in 2009. Brotherhood follows the manga almost exactly whereas the first anime was an original story based on the first 20 or so issues of the manga. SO GOOD.

I believe the author had given birth shortly before writing this chapter of the manga, in case you were wondering where she got the inspiration for Ed’s traumatic injury. Also, Izumi’s illness was a toll paid that can never be restored, at least not without extreme measures (like using a philosopher’s stone). Ed‘s injury is conventional and could be treated conventionally, although it’s obviously dire.

"If anyone watches just one anime in their life, i feel like they should watch Fullmetal Alchemist" In my opinion, that is very true. FMAB is definitely my number 1 favorite anime out of all the anime i've watched. It has every aspects and i love it so much

I really love that Van Hohenheim is the one who introduced Xing to their Healing Alchemy, because we did see him heal/help Izumi without using a transmutation circle like May Chang does due to him being philosopher's stone.

So glad you’re liking the show, it’s one of, if not the best anime of all time.

Pretty much everyone that's seen it puts it in the top 3 or 5 series of all time. Mine are FMAB, FLCL, and Mob Psycho 100. Mob might become my #1 if season 3 is as good as 2, but FMAB wins for being a complete story right now.

Yep, many people don't like it because of they compare it to their favorite shows but even bad shows can be liked. Objectively no one should deny that in terms of story telling Fmab is near perfect.

FMAB is one of the greatest anime you'll ever watch. The writing is almost unparalleled.

On the topic of Alchemy colours. What Hohenheim does looks similar to Father at first glance. But Hohenheim isn't using the stone's power so his is blue. The reason he still doesn't need a circle and can affect things at a distance is because his alchemy is older. Like Mei he could probably do long range transmutations that alkehystry allows. But having seen the truth similarly to Ed he doesn't need try draw a circle or use Kunai to do so. He's got an elevated form of Alchemy before the practices were split into their Amestrian and Xingese varients. Its a very cool element of the worldbuilding!

Alkahestry is basically the Alchemy techniques Hohenheim taught to Xingese people, makes sense why its primary use if for healing.

Showing mercy to your enemies works on those who are following orders, because it took Scar two encounters with Winry and a lot May Chang in his life to consider changing his ways, but Kimblee is a different monster all together his motivations aren't specific.

@@stewart1555 His motivation is simple. He enjoys throwing a party. Of destruction. But he enjoys watching how others behave even more. That's his kink. Forcing others to react and seeing what they do.

@@WaywardVet True enough considering he is helping the Homunculi and helping them is a path that is more destructive to humanity, requiring them to react united & bravely.

I definitely agree that if a person should watch one anime in their life, it would be FMAB. Not just because of the awesome characters, profound themes, and brilliant plot, but the fact that you don't even need to be an anime fan to enjoy it (personally verified when I introduced this to my dad, and it became by default his favorite anime).

Heinkel may have picked up a philosopher stone, but Ed would never use it. First, he feels it would add credence to their being killed to be a resource. Second, even if he did like the exception he made in the void, he wouldn’t use it on himself- he doesn’t want to use the life of another to correct his mistake.

Saw the upload this morning omw to work. It took all my self-control to not watch it immediately on my phone, because your reaction to Ed getting skewered is worth the big screen. Btw, ep.42 also answered the question "why can't FATHER make another Lust?" because Lust's stone was destroyed on the spot, unlike 1st Greed, and Gluttony who went back to FATHER's body when they died. FATHER cannot create another Lust because there is no more "lust" left in him.

@Alana Misako, I'll try not to spoil anything for you. I believe there were numerous times in the show which Ed stated that he will never use philosopher's stone to fix their bodies after learning the nature of the stone. That's like asking for someone else to give up their lives to fix the mistake that you made. Ed and El had been through so much and they are better than that.

This is spoiling the next 2 episodes which I know you already watched so I'll just say it. But I love how Kimblee knew he couldn't curve the crest of blood at Briggs by trying to kill the people there himself so he tricked Drachma into thinking they can win and Kimblee has men inside Briggs, as a way to commit suicide essentially and curve the crest that way. Genius move making use of the conflict between the regions to just have Briggs curve the crest for them and help out the enemy (not like they have a choice ).

FMAB definitely top 3. In a different style, but Code Geass R1 and R2 are pretty nice to watch/recommend... But also underrated for FMAB are the openings, endings and soundtrack. Lullaby of Resembool is one of my favorite all time.
