they made andy hateable as a foil rival sometimes work bff to dwight but like its hard to hate ed helms..hes so earnest funny sympathetic and weird in his acting that you like andy and hate him at the same time like when says tuna..its so endearing lol even if more times then not its meant to annoy jim or us by how he says it or almost reach annoying..i feel his ending is so andy...wild..hes not a consistent character cause he does not know who he is and his backstory is perfect for that cause neither did the writers until we learned about his parents..they just had him be extreme for a while and that was cool then they chilled him down to get with angela then he became insane again

From seasons 5-8 Andy was probably my favorite character. He went from a douchey, frat-boy kind of guy with anger issues to a dorky salesman with a passion for musical theatre. I also think he was actually good at being regional manager and was quite rational, he was still obnoxious and had his quirks but he was generally easier to deal with than Michael and he respected his coworkers a lot (when he defended them when Robert California called them losers and when he agreed to get a tattoo of their choice). His storyline with Erin was by far my favorite thing about the later seasons and it just sucks that his character ended the way it did.

Andy was one of my favorite characters on The Office. Definitely my favorite secondary character. While I agree that they could've likely ended the show very satisfyingly with Michael leaving (or at least fast forward to Michael's wedding day), I actually liked Andy as manager at the beginning of season 8. I thought he was different enough from Michael's management style, silly in his own way but still good-natured. I especially like that he stood up for his coworkers when Robert California called half of them losers, even though he was still on shaky ground with California, and I also enjoyed his friendship and musician camaraderie with Darryl. Professionally speaking, I thought that in the first half of season 8 he was shown to be a better manager than salesman. Ed Helms really showed some acting chops when it came to a couple of other subplots too, like his tumultuous relationship with his parents and his indecisiveness when it came to trying to get over Erin. I'm watching season 9, and it's hard to get through. They've turned him into a joke. I understand he had another commitment and couldn't be there all of season 9, but come on. I'd rather he left the show completely than for his arc to just be thrown overboard. If it could be done over, here's what I would've made go down after Michael left: Andy becomes the manager and does pretty well, but feels something is lacking in his life when he goes to watch his alum college a capella group perform at state, and towards the end of season 8 (maybe with four episodes left) he decides to start an entertainment business and gets his a capella group (or maybe his band mates) to perform at weddings and parties and such. He is able to leave his job completely to invest in this business since he has money set aside. Then, after he leaves, Dwight reclaims his rightful place as manager, Angela leaves her senator husband, and Dwight proposes (maybe the ring is in a beet salad he makes for her). For time purposes, Jim doesn't enter into a start-up but instead gets an opportunity in Philly to become a sports columnist and Pam and the kids relocate with him, Pam deciding to interview as an entry-level intern at a small advertising agency in Philly to work towards her own artistic aspirations. In the final episode they all gather to celebrate Michael and Holly's wedding, with everyone watching the documentary at the rehearsal dinner the night before (maybe Holly convinces everyone to watch it due to Michael feeling homesick). I didn't mention Erin because I didn't really care one way or another if her and Andy ended up together. I thought Andy pursuing her was super cute, and I was happy that he actually liked someone who was nice to him after being engaged to someone who didn't even really like him. But then Erin went kind of crazy on him when they hadn't even been going out a month, and since then I've thought she was high maintenance. In season 9 she just kind of sucked, although that's on the writers for making her whole character be centered around dating one person or another in the office. I liked her best when they played up the whole father-daughter dynamic between her and Michael. Overall, I still give the writers props for crafting such a unique and funny show and creating a lot of memorable characters over the years. Though watching season 9 through once is enough for me, I find the majority of the show to be incredibly re-watchable, and that is a feat.

i completely agree with you. andy was one of my favourite characters and i actually enjoyed season 8, i thought he did a great job as manager and he had some great ideas (the butt tattoo thing) but the writers went crazy on season 9 and i would have liked him to stay with his girlfriend jessica (i think they were a cute couple) and leave at the end of season 8, instead of becoming a jerk and ending up alone.

Wow. I love your ideas for seasons 8 and 9. That would've been a really sweet way to go, and I would have loved to have seen seasons 8 and 9 of The Office go down that way. @@rachele3334 for real. I mean I understand her being upset about not knowing, but it's really not a reason to break up with someone. They hadn't even been together that long at that point in the show. And like you said the bachelorette party, they acted like Middle Schooler's when they could have just waited a day for Andy to end things.
@rachele3334
@rachele3334 4 жыл бұрын
Brooklyn Wilson honestly, I would have even been fine if Andy had just married his fiancée and we could have seen Erin grow a lot as a character watching her ex move on. It happens in real life and it sucks, but it could have been really well done and touching •. Shows like this tend to drag relationships on and off for far too long. They even created drama for Jim and Pam in the last season to keep us “interested.” It was just stupid and infuriating. Sorry for the rant, but that was my all-time favorite show for six seasons and they totally ruined it. 😭
