What's interesting is that the song Ed is playing in the beginning is actually a song from his band's self titled album, The Lonesome Trio. It's called Mr. Fortune.

A lot of times people who are funny or really intense as actors turn out to be musicians also, just like with Mr. Helms here, I both AM surprised and am NOT surprised. Something about his musical sensibility seems to explain how his characters came across on the Office and elsewhere. I hope this interview slows down his narrative a bit to connect the dots a little more how he went from pursuing music to pursuing a career as an actor. Also, I think I've coined a useful term for the "Dead Poet Society" thing where one throws oneself headlong into one's love for someone or some thing. I call it "quixotic romanticism".

I would love to know what model that guitar is. It looks like an old Gibson, but I don’t think the headstock bears the Gibson logo. I didn’t recognize the headstock logo. It is certainly a nice looking guitar with a mellow tone. It’s got mojo.
