There's an amazing trance-like quality to this song. It's like being in somebody else's compelling dream. It's of it's time, yet timeless. How do you write and arrange music that simmers just below rage and still echoes with love and passion and humid summer air? Keupper did, it's an elegant arrangement with the restrained execution of a professional artist and I marvel at it's brilliance every time I hear it. And I know that I'll be hearing it for days. It's so bloody resonant!

I've seen him play live twice. Both instances were in fairly intimate settings. He was only accompanied a drummer and he is an intense guitar player and his sets are intense. He just belts out all these original songs, many of them on a steel string guitar. What he does is takes the listener on a journey into his mind. He is an artist not for the casual listener but even so he can draw you in mid set. I find to get the most out of these types of musician it is better to be familiar with their material to better appreciate the live. He really is an excellent live performer and very approachable. We had a chat after the show for ages - perhaps 45mins and it was the first time I'd seen him (not that two occasions is much LOL. I was introduced to him by a New Yorker who was visiting Melbourne (Australia) and I was hooked. We saw him at a pub and there were only about 10 people there on a Monday night. That was in 1994 and by '94 he was already getting on to be a well known performer for about 15-20 years. I came to him late.

As for the landscape in the video, the first minute shows the cokemaking facilities in Port Kembla steelworks, in those days perhaps the largest industrial plant in Southern Hemisphere. Then there is a tall cylinder (one of two) holding the reserve gas supply for the steelworks. A very tall chimney seen between weatherboard houses belonged to the copper smelter that changed many hands (I remember it under the name Southern Copper). The smelter is gone, and the chimney too. The orange flame is from the burning of off-gas in the steelmaking plant. The derelict suburb is most likely Port Kembla or its surrounds.
