I have an idea for a future episode you should make one about all the ghost and cryptid stories from Glasgow Scotland especially the stories surrounding the Gorbals graveyard which is notorious for its stories about the Iron Man a metal toothed ogre which is said to eat children there's also Jenny with the iron teeth but the most famous story is that of the Gorbals Vampire in 1954 people in Glasgow had encounters with what they described as a ghostly 2 meter tall figure with shiny metallic teeth and then on September 23 1954 around 400 school children of varying age entered the Gorbals graveyard armed with melee weapons determined to find the vampire and it took the entire police force to control the situation

I think that your channel, and your content are FAR too good to stoop down to the level of the Con Artists known as Ed and Lorraine Warren. Nearly every word they say is either a flat out fabrication (lie) or a major embellishment (half truth). As always, your video quality and story are fine. But the content from those two just isn't worth my time.
@TheTapeLibrary5 ай бұрын
@@bigbossimmotal Appreciate it, but I've covered them a bunch over time (including my first ever long form episode). The thing is, in most incidents they don't start these stories, they just insert themselves and then drastically exaggerate what happened. So it's interesting trying to figure out what the real story is, and what the warrens version is.

@Shin_Lona5 ай бұрын
@@Jeremy-yh8lv Yeah, that's basically the situation, but there's a bit more nuance. It's quite possible that the Warrens genuinely dealt with some very strange cases, but they definitely would embellish things. They were known for contacting the press to create attention - seeking the notoriety to sell their books. There are, essentially, three different opinions that people will take: - Skeptics will simply write them off as frauds, with Ed and Loraine making everything up. - People who legitimately research the paranormal often see them in a more negative light, as they are trying to present the field as a serious scientific investigation. - Then there are the actual fans. They believe in the paranormal and take the accounts at face value, seeing the Warrens as pioneers in the field. Though, these people are primarily just see it in terms of entertainment. The reality is a combination of all three of these viewpoints. However, this is kind of the dynamic, in general, for all "fringe" topics. The same can be said about, UFOs for example. People will make sensational claims that the believers will buy ($) into. Skeptics will use the same ridiculous claims to debunk the phenomena entirely, ever confident in their "superior intellect." Meanwhile, real investigators are left sifting through the muddied waters, looking for the truth - annoyed with the other two parties bickering in the background and cursing the charlatans who used their passion to make a quick buck.

Came to say exactly the same. 25 years under a cop's belt gives them a lot of dangerous, weird and -every now and then- even paranormal experiences. One single episode of a 'random drunkard' it will be nowhere near enough to make a sturdy and hardened man to early retirement. My uncle was a former cop and he used to tell us odd stories of some of his encounters before being hit by the Altz and unable to remember what he did for breakfast... I totally believe that cop experienced something out of the norm that topped anything he had previously experienced.

At the time men weren't exactly great at dealing with their emotions, they weren't encouraged to be. Men were supposed to be stoic and not show 'soft' emotions, anger was allowable and physical violence as a way to end any difficult conversation was pretty normal. I can remember a 'jokey' saying about a raised fist ending all arguments. Much of his description of how he felt absolutely sound like massive anxiety attacks, overwhelming and debilitating. Childhood trauma would be the first thing on my list to look into. He wouldn't have gotten much sympathy or understanding at that time in the UK. He would have been told to sort himself out, to 'man up'. Which would have forced him to repress it even harder. Poor man sounds as though he was in sheer mental and emotional hell. With no way to interpret what was happening to him, let alone develop a way to cope. Instead of help, he got the Warrens. Poor man. The exorcism helping isn't evidence that he was possessed for me, more that he believed that would combat the 'evil' inside him. Whatever the Warren's religious beliefs or whether they truly believed they were on the side of the angels, they took advantage and literally fed on people like Bill. They were arrogant and pushy by many accounts. With Ed especially being described as aggressive. They encouraged fear in people by talking about ancient elemental evil that they seemed to detect everywhere. Some mental health issues there too. I am coming to appreciate your storytelling more and more. You're with me as I sit sewing and I often reply/comment as though you're sitting in the same room! Mad auld bat that I am.

Remember that a lot of mental disorders have fluctuating symptoms that are exacerbated by stress and anxiety; his delusions and psychosis had him in a cycle of fear. The exorcism genuinely could have freed him from some triggers, thus easing his symptoms enough for him to regain control. Most treatment is talk based, with grappling the root trigger the main desire of therapy. Psychosis & delusions aren’t limited to schizophrenia either. Mental illnesses are poorly understood even today, so it is very likely he was deemed perfectly sane then! Especially if, despite his ramblings about wolves, he was coherent and aware during his stints at the psych hospital!

I have only heard this story once before ( was about 10 - 13 ish), but it was only told from where Bill had arrived at the police station and ended up in the cell. I think I heard of it in early 90's. and there was no mention of other attacks that I can remember.

This sounds like what we, in the therian community, refer to as envisage shifts, mental shifts, phantom shifts, and berserker shifts. I've experienced it quite a few times, though never as extreme as the Warrens describe.

I'm fully convinced that this was a life-long mental health issue for Bill, and that the triggers for the condition to worsen were just never figured out. I'm honestly not sure what kinds of medical tests they could have run in the 80s to rule out any and every mental health disorder that includes hallucinations, irrational anger, and unprovoked violence, but I feel like there are probably some forms of bipolar disorder or schizophrenia that wouldn't be a huge stretch of the imagination. That said, there's a lot of anecdotal evidence about the power of suggestion when it comes to religion, even for non-believers. Even if Bill thought logically that it was nonsense, consider the situation he found himself in by the time he was in the middle of the exorcism: This was a man who had experienced a number of terrifying symptoms, who may have been a danger to his family, and who medical science couldn't diagnose or treat. Then, two Americans show up and tell you that you're possessed, and for 7 months, you're continuously reminded that there's a demon inside you. When you finally arrive in America, you talk again about being possessed, and you meet the priest who is actually going to perform this ritual on you, and once you're in the church, you're surrounded by believers, religious iconography, and all of the somber atmosphere churches try and project. If "experts" in their field told me repeatedly that they knew what was wrong with me, when science and reason had been completely baffled, I might be desperate enough to stop thinking about it critically for the chance to have this all go away.

Yeah, this is a great response. I think I agree with you totally.

I am wholly convinced that they didn't run the type of detailed tests for epilepsy that you can do today, because they simply didn't exist back then. For me, epilepsy is still the answer that makes most sense, knowing what I know from my partner working in that field
@TheTapeLibrary5 ай бұрын
@@MydieLy It is interesting that Bill even refers to it as a seizure or epileptic attack in a few instances. And I'm sure you're right, the tests for that sort of thing likely were nowhere near as good. But then, why did it stop after the exorcism? Is epilepsy something you can just 'will' away?

100 per cent agree paranoid dellusions and he brought the wolf connection's with him from a young age then real problems got worse with the paranoid schizophrenic getting more sick becauce it seems it had gone undiagnosed so there fore layed untreated and progressively turned to violence murder and madness

I think I personally land on the side of thinking that Bill was afflicted with some kind of psychological mallady and not a spiritual or physical possession. I believe the outbursts (at least the credible ones) were very real and uncontrollable however and am glad that he found something that could give him his life back. Another great file for the archives Mr. Library!

hi mate. So after a few weeks of digging - even finding out that two of my uncles have moved to France... No one remembers anything about this story. At first I was disappointed, but after a day or two I'm starting to believe that the lack of knowledge of this by my family just adds to the intrigue of the Wolfman.

For the Warren video you could devide it up in to chapters. Like chapter 1 early years and section them off during periods of time each period being it's own video.

This is one thing I always think about them, if they really were total frauds they were bloody dedicated ones. It's why a part of me feels that on some level they came into this with genuine belief and a desire to help people. If that is still the case by this point in their career though I'm less sure.

For some reason, I'm not taking the no mental health issues diagnosis too seriously - the 80s had a tendency to misdiagnose people.😅 I think young Bill realized he was different due to some neurodivergence😅, found Wolfman as a great maladaptive daydream base, and to make sense of his weirdness adopted the persona fully? Very engaging episode as per usual!
