Interesting to hear how the scripts were already written for series 14 yet they were re-written in a short timeframe. Wasn’t a fan of these episode but it seems like Ed McCardie was given few tools to work with. It’s good to hear his side of the story. Also appears that it was decided this was the final series before transmission and zero budget made the overall quality of the series poor and gave the network a justification to axe the series.

very true, gives the other side of the story. However, for those of us who religiously watched from day 1 pilot show to see what happened in the final was heartbreaking for want of a better phrase, if they had the budget they should have sent it off like the final of E.R. which payed hommage to all past and present, and a very big nod to its origins. If you havent seen it I fully recommend you do.

@@markjeffers1341 I totally agree with you. The show was my Sunday night staple watch growing up. I’ve got all series on dvd when they were released including series 14, it always felt at the time that series 14 was the “series that never was “ to me as it was a world away from London’s Burning. Although later series weren’t as strong it should have stopped on series 13. It was sad to see such an iconic show die the death it did. I agree the ending should have had a nod to past characters

It's such a shame that ITV cut the budget to virtually zero. It shows in the last series and I guess we can only imagine what it could've been in the final couple of series's.

Did as good a job as he could with a low budget. He basically had his hands tied behind his back.

Breaks my heart the fact that Ed has all but confirmed that ITV deliberately wanted to kill the series

Why decide on a 2 hour final special with satellites 📡 falling and they can’t even afford to rent tuxedos for a party ?!? Stupidity on the part of the producers !! Lol

All this guy had to do was watch the final episodes before the interview. I mean come on. Also it sounds like it was 2002 and not 2001 that he worked on it as he says

Because he’s busy! A full-time writer with better things to do. He had files & notes from back then to refresh the memory, so why bother watching the episodes for a *free* interview.

Season 14 is usually one of two seasons I don't revisit during rewatches, 14 in particular due to the huge cast change and there being almost no shouts. I also hated the decision to kill off yet another main character.

This is true, however, I think Ben Onwukwe (who played Recall) had enough for being in the series long enough, but obviously George Green (Glen Murphy) survived from Series 1 to Series 14 for being in part, and then Micheal Garner (Geoff "Poison" Pearce) being from Series 6 to Series 14 was a decent involvement, but I think interviewing Glen Murphy is going to be very special from being the only character (Series 1 onwards) is a real honor for lasting a very long time in the TV series but not being in the Pilot, which is still a pain to think about but yeah, if they get a chance to interview Glen Murphy, I'd love to see what he has to say for being in the series for a long time.

@@BlueTGM40 Series 6-14 a “decent” involvement? Glen not being in the pilot “a pain”? Who are you? Ever heard of a full stop?

@@AirwolfArchive I’m not saying it’s a problem, I’m saying there can be two different things to be proud of, like how Richard Walsh was the longest that came from the pilot movie.
