"Rat Fink" was originally supposed to be "Rat Fuck" but Ed wanted to clean it up. A "rat fuck" is like a "cluster fuck" if anyone's curious. EBDR Forever!

This is an excellent video. What a strange story behind it's discovery! I too followed the story in Hot Rod magazine. Beautiful restoration!!

Man, so happy to see it up and restored (and how quickly too!!) What a fantastic piece of American art, rescued from being a dump (literally) in Mexico! It is incredibly important that these works from Roth, as well as Williams, Von Dutch, and others, are preserved and respected as the mid century art they are. Just gorgeous... Now...if we can just find the remains of the Mysterion!!!

They were found. Sections of it. The frame could not support the engines after a time.

I just saw "Rat Fink" and loved it. Such a genuine spirit. This restoration proves that though it's a niche market, there are kustomizers who do unique work for art sake.

professorcookie thats exactly what my motivation in restoring Von Dutch’s Bus is, for the sake of the art form.

So, what - we get the whole story but only get to see 9 seconds of the actual car? C'mon, gimme a frickin tour, show me over, under, around, front and back and inside and out. This is frickin history guys, and a masterpiece restoration job. I mean, cool story but I'd have been happy if no one said a word and all I saw was the car.

Cool! A history lesson and a face to the creator of the Funky Rat (my name). Reminds me of the Corvair powered Silhouette, very space-aged.

Ed Roth thought the car was a piece of junk. Everytime it came off the trailer, something broke.

Awesome job. Good to see Roth's legend is in good hands unlike to cheap sell out fuckers who destroyed Von Dutch's life work by plastering it all over cheap chinese handbags and T-Shirts. Long Live Ed ' Big Daddy' Roth!!

yeah i'll crap my pants when they find the mysterion.

It was found. It's in a book on Roth. One of those soft back magazine kind of books. His son contributed to it. The car could not support the weight of the two engines. It was in sections.

The Orbitron wasn't too popular with the public, at least not the way these guys present it. People wanted to SEE the engine! Not that Roth "finked" up; he, like Ken "Von Dutch" Howard, didn't give a "Rat's ass" (sorry, Finky) what the public thought. If you TOLD Von Dutch how you wanted your vehicle painted, 9 times out of 10, he'd tell you to fuck off and take it elsewhere. For the best striping jobs by Dutch, you'd park, tell him 2 words: "Stripe it!" and split. He'd then do a(nother) masterpiece of work. Roth didn't build these cars to sell. They were just to draw crowds to his booth so he could paint/sell T shirts. Believe it or not, that's what the cars were for . He'd make a killing on shirt sales. 4/11/17
