I hope folks realize that every piece of the Golden Nugget has been touched by many hands, at each stage even. This is the definition of a custom built vehicle. Building a rig like this entails a lot of fitting and re-engineering. In a custom shop, these builds often take a couple of years. You guys are doing a great job. Kudos to all involved!

I saw a custom restoration on Graveyard Cars that took years. I think part of it was probably hunting down original parts though. Something this build couldn't do many times.

What is absolutely fascinating, is that a bunch of demolition derby guys (who are well used to using thier experience to take a bunch of junk and thrash it around a bit), to then show thier absolute A game, and work on something which now looks better than new and make it more than perfect for a friend... This is knowledge, engineering, family, friendship and love, all in one ,,, Thanks to the whole Rat/Beard/Robby/MORR team for doing something truy unique and very very special.

Ive seen a stainless coupler being slid down a shaft with two fingers suddenly stop. Still blows me away that Ed went out cruising one sunny day in his J30, and ended up walking away from it stuck deep in the woods for 40 years, and all he knows at this point is it was retrieved, and he got a cool refurbished scooter. If the boy wants to help then let him. So maybe suggest to your man that the kids wouldn't be in his way if he asked them to help. Makes for a healthy child letting them help, even if it takes a bit longer and you have to do it again when their not watching.

Just like Matt’s, shop, I love how family and friends are always stopping by to hangout. You can tell ppl have been doing it for a longtime, this didn’t just start because of KZbin. When ppl gravitate towards someone like that, it says a lot about them. The golden nuggets looking great, I’m really looking forward to seeing Mr. Ed’s reaction.🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻

You guys are doing amazing!!! Golden Nugget is coming along nicely. Some people don't understand how long something like this takes, but I know and understand. If you have ever done a ground up rebuild, then you know this is a six month to 1-year project. Even more so when you're volunteering because you still have other plans that pay the bills. Anyway, I wish you guys nothing but the best of luck and hopefully this project finishes up easy for you guys. Ed will be excited to get the nugget back, I'm sure.

Interesting Fact, that binding usually happens with 2 different grades of stainless is used between the nuts and bolts. We had that issue at work for ages untill some one mentioned that. Now we use 316 with 316 and 308 with 308 and all is well! Thanks for the great content...

If you torque ANY stainless down without anti-seize (and often even with anti-seize) it's going to gall. This effect is actually MORE likely if both components are the same material. Like merges with like.

Love your channel, great technical description of real life tinkering, designing, adjusting along the way......redoing. also very much like the fact that although you do edit, as it really would be impossible to show everything as it would need to be live, it still looks as if you're not hiding anything and it actually feels like in reality, where nothing goes easy and everything takes time and sweat to accomplish. Very much appreciate the fact that you keep your family close and pushing together through everything, while still maintaining everyone's independent stance and letting them sharpen their skills. Keep on with the great job, I believe you have desiferred the code for hard work and a good life Sir.

First, great job on the nugget. Just an FYI. Stainless bolts will cold weld if you don't use a little grease when assembling them. Also they can be pretty weak. Think grade 2. I learned this the hard way while "restoring" my '71 Triumph. I use all grade 8 bolts (the gold ones) for the suspension parts.

It's obvious to me that this is a Father's Day gift for Ed. I hope I can have as much esteem shown me, as you're showing Ed you have for him. This is a marvelous rebuild. All Ed wanted was a paint job, but he's getting sooo much more than that. Kudos for a job well done!

When installing stainless bolts it helps to use STL thread lubricant. It makes a world of difference in getting the bolts back of.

@@JGuraan Not on stainless to stainless. If you dont use some kind of lube when putting together it welds itself together. The only thing to do then is cut it or break it to get it apart.
@JGuraan
@JGuraan 2 жыл бұрын
@@edmundanderson657 Idk, it's worked fine for me every time. And that's hundreds of times. From what I understand of the concept, the welding isn't so much a problem because it truly bonds the threads together, but because it makes the surfaces rough enough to massively increase the friction between threads. Thus adding penetrating lubricant, even at disassembly, allows what little actual joining has occurred to be broken.
