I took care of my mom for 12 years. She had dementia. This song made me cry whenever I listened to it during the last year or so of her life. She has been gone two years now and this song will reduce me to a sobbing mess every time. I happened upon your reaction today and once again I’m a mess. I needed the release though so thank you. LYRICS! I took the supermarket flowers from the windowsill I threw the day old tea from the cup Packed up the photo album Matthew had made Memories of a life that's been loved Took the get well soon cards and stuffed animals Poured the old ginger beer down the sink Dad always told me, "Don't you cry when you're down" But mum, there's a tear every time that I blink Oh I'm in pieces, it's tearing me up, but I know A heart that's broke is a heart that's been loved So I'll sing Hallelujah You were an angel in the shape of my mum When I fell down you'd be there holding me up Spread your wings as you go And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah You're home Fluffed the pillows, made the beds, stacked the chairs up Folded your nightgowns neatly in a case John says he'd drive then put his hand on my cheek And wiped a tear from the side of my face I hope that I see the world as you did 'cause I know A life with love is a life that's been lived So I'll sing Hallelujah You were an angel in the shape of my mum When I fell down you'd be there holding me up Spread your wings as you go And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah You're home Hallelujah You were an angel in the shape of my mum You got to see the person I have become Spread your wings and I know That when God took you back he said Hallelujah You're home

what Ed Sheeran had to say about this song. “[It was] Really hard to write, yeah. Very easy at the same time in terms of its flow. Because there was no trying to think of poignant lines and being like you know death is this or like life is this. It was just so spot on and the lyric of ‘you are an angel in the shape of my mom’, that could end upping a poignant line but it was the truth. She was one of the nicest women you’d ever meet, and she was my mum’s mum. It was written for my mum’s point of view; it was choosing loads of specific things and then just finishing it as a song.”
@zaniac4262 жыл бұрын
According to Ed Sheeran, “Supermarket Flowers” was written from Ed’s mom’s perspective; “It was written for my mom’s point of view. My grandmother was very ill during the time I was making the record and passed away at the end of me making the record so we wrote this song as a tribute and just left it on.”

There is this one song from Ed Sheeran from his collaborations album - Little Lady by Ed Sheeran feat Mikill Pane - that is simply moving. Its one of those songs that I don’t know if I like. It makes me sad, angry, impressed with the writing, hopeful, and imminently tragic. It spins parts of the real world people don’t want to talk about into verses you can listen to and feel like you’re there, wanting to help. (Typing this at 0:11 into the video, so we'll see how it goes..!) Well, now I know for sure that I'd never have made it through without your interjections; some well-timed pauses there, sir! 😊Ed Sheeran is a master at these types of songs - him and Lewis Capaldi, a young Scottish singer-songwriter who's a vocal powerhouse. I don't know if you've reacted to the latter yet, but he's well worth a look too - 'Someone You Loved' and 'Before You Go' are his biggest hits.

This is such a beautiful song and Ed's voice seems to deliver so much comfort in those times when we need it. I have lost my Mum, and both Grandmothers so this hits a lot of nerves with me, but is also very comforting. A few years ago, here in the UK a young lad named Harry Gardner performed this song on the X-Factor and for someone so young he absolutely nailed it. He also performed a song he had personally written which I would love you to react to, called "Not Alone", it's another one I can relate to very much kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJa5pGmnasd2ldU
