I stayed at the Yotel in Heathrow a few years ago. If this one's anything like that one, the bed is that high because the stack these slightly higher up or lower down to maximise space. Someone will be sleeping in another bed just under yours. Their room will be at a lower level, so they're not sleeping on the floor or anything but it will make that room a bit more 'accessible' for non-youths.

Some see and have also proposed the capsule hotel concept as a solution to the housing crisis because "they would be the future of rental housing" and "rents for smaller apartments would be more affordable" and "tenants currently want smaller apartments." However, I believe that living in rented capsule apartments is not healthy for people and mental health, because capsule hotels are not meant for permanent living, but for temporary overnight stays. And that's why I'm afraid of the plans to build rental apartments for the poor and students with a capsule hotel concept.

yes, are the mega rich queuing up for capsule apartments? no? then you know it's probably shit. you are right. it's just about profit.

Instead of copying capsule hotels, what we (as in countries like the UK, USA, Australia etc with housing problems) should be doing is copying those tiny apartments they have in Japan. Having seen many KZbin videos showing off such apartments I think they (if they did them properly) would be great for people who don't need a lot of space and don't own a lot of stuff.
@danielmalinen63375 ай бұрын
@@jfwfreo If the building costs can be kept low. In Finland, we tried mini-apartments and built a few apartment buildings with 10 and 15 square meter apartments as a test. But the rents of these mini-apartments rised so high that no one rents them for 700-900 euros a month, when you can rent a 30-square-meter apartment for 500 euros. Even the marketing of mini-apartments as luxury didn't attract residents to move into them.

There’s no chance you want to sleep in a capsule without some proper ventilation. Having at least minimal soundproofing instead of just a thin piece of wood. The real question is if the capsule hotel is better than a hostel. Why choose a capsule over a normal hotel room for the same price? Maybe it makes more sense in a big expensive city though as you’re unlikely to find hotels at a low price. They should have the best capsules for sleeper trains though.

These are horrible. We shouldn't be considering coffins as the future of basic, affordable shelter. This isn't good for physical or mental health. It would be healthier to stay in a tent for any amount of time.
@WhichDoctor14 ай бұрын
Yeah, the sci fi versions of these were imagined because of severely limited space of spaceships and such. We are currently living on a whole ass planet. There is more than enough room for people to have more than a couple square meters to themselves. The only limiting factor is the insanely inflated costs of property. And that’s an entirely invented problem. We could choose to arrange things so that isn’t an issue if we wanted to. And personally I think that’d be a better idea than us all being forced to sleep in coffins with RGB lights
