It was nothing to do with Mike. The original show was very realistic. Ed would spend weeks fixing up the cars. But the shows producers wanted to change how things were done, and have an entire team of mechanics working on the cars behind the scenes - and just have Ed presenting the final stages of the fix/assembly (which is what happens on the new Wheeler Dealers). Ed wasn't happy with that, because he thought it was dishonest and he enjoyed working on the cars. So he quit

Wheeler dealers really dropped a Bollock when they decided to keep Tubby Brewer & get rid of Ed China. Ed’s parts of the show was the only parts worth watching. I used to work in the car repair business, and lost count of how many ‘know all-know nothing’ wide boys who’s standard go-to phrase was “ Only take a couple of minutes to fix Mate” Then really had their nose put out of joint when they were told the Engine’s got to come out or there’s Major Chassis rot that’s going to be expensive and this is how much something is going to cost. Or actually had to pay a bill because they had no idea what they were buying in the first place. My thoughts were ‘if it’ll only take a couple of minutes to fix they could have done it themselves’. I know old wheeler dealers was scripted and they were to a degree playing parts but I still to this day loath ‘Mike Brewer’ types and it’s my guess the stupid American TV production company approached Brewer first & signed him and thought that they had the Brains of the show... sorry to disappoint, but Brewers parts you could have cut out & left on the cutting room floor and no one would really have missed them.

I hope one day I can thank Edd in person for helping me out through Wheeler Dealers. I was desperately trying to find a castle nut which would work on my car, and I simply could not find one with the right thread gauge anywhere I went; nothing on the internet either. I *could* find a *nut* with the right thread gauge, but not a *castle* nut for the front spindle. Then I saw him pull the front wheel off that '68(?) Dodge Charger and there it was, the solution to my problem: a regular nut with the Chrysler-style "bottle cap" with a notch in it, designed to aceept a cotter pin. I'm sure lots of folks with more experience than me would think of this fairly quickly, but I had never seen that Chrysler solution before. I was then able to find a notched "bottle cap" to fit the nut I'd already found with the proper thread gauge, and by gum it works. Thanks Edd!

Edd - Based on some of your answers, I would suggest that you talk to Hagerty (insurance and price guides) and Tom Cotter of Barn Find Hunter (a KZbin series sponsored in part by Hagerty) about doing a series that combines some of Tom's "finds" with you talents to fix things up. I'm NOT talking about where you and Tom buy the cars. I'm also NOT talking about total restorations. Just where you work with some of the owners of the Barn Find cars to help them protect and preserve the cars - keep the patina but make sure the working parts don't deteriorate so bad they are no longer usable. If the owner of the car then wants to sell the car, so be it, but you and Tom are not directly involved with that (well, unless you are asked and you want to). This would not an "Overhaulin" (Chip Foose) clone or a new version of Pimp My Ride. Again you and Tom would do just enough to preserve the car including the patina (but stop the rust). I think this could be a neat video series and hopefully one that Hagerty would keep free on KZbin. Just an idea - hope you see this. I do miss seeing you.

The absolute WORST part of wheeler dealers for me, even though it was technically staged, was when Brewer would burst in and tell Edd he’s done fuck all and the car looks no different. Cringing out of my arse every time. Always wanted Edd to knock his cockney block off!

Everyone here seems to dislike Mike. I think that's unfair. As a personality, he was the perfect extrovert counterweight to Edd. But Edd was the obvious star, not only due to his car abilities, but also, he was a very atypical car guy, more like the workshop version of David Attenborough, with his English gentleman style. And I liked his mildly sarcastic expressions when Mike raved on something he liked. I think the chemistry was exactly what the show needed.

Totally agree Henrik, The show was called Wheeler Dealers for a reason and Edd was not the wheeler dealer although I do think he had the best part of the show as most of us enjoy seeing things get fixed and how to do it etc. But I also enjoyed seeing how Mike would choose the right car, watch the spend and then see how much profit they would make! without that it would have been just another how to fix and restore cars show. It would not have been the success Wheeler Dealers is that's for sure.

Edd is and will always be AWESOME. He is such a clear, modest and level-headed communicator. As someone said below, a gentleman. Very stylish and sophisticated, not to mention incredibly knowledgeable. I love his words on cars and assume his views on VW are on their older models as he mentions air and water cooled. The banter between him and Mike is entertaining, and at times, I notice when Mike attempts to poke and stir controversy (eg Moke color change), Edd is super cool and just does his own thing and makes up his own mind. I really wish he would come round to another series and I love all the prices and mention of money as the whole point of the show is to make these cars affordable and within reach of the average person. Whilst I love Mike’s presentation style, humor and personality, I really hope we see Edd again on a new show. It needs to be accessible and not overly focused on motors and technical stuff, but spread out more. Nice restorations, value adding, improvements, body repairs, cosmetic changes, conversations eg left to right hand drive or petrol to electric, manual to auto. That type of thing. Edd, PLEASE COME BACK!! Ps, so many favorite episodes but up there for me are Citroen 2cv and H Van, and SO many others.....
