I finally tried SB2. I skipped SB1. I was reluctant in the beginning because of the high price and high stack. I thought the high stack would make the shoe feel like a tank but quite the contrary. The high praise it received from a consensus of youtubers broke me phycologicaly, and when I saw it in the black colorway, it was like the black hole of the universe. It sucked me right in before I could rationalize the price. All the reservations I had about them were laid to rest the first time I ran in them. I now reach for them 90% of the time even over my beloved Boston 12. I think Frank Shorter was talking about this shoe when he said, " Running fast is more fun than running slow." I'm 66 with bad knees and still hold down a very physical blue collar job, so any shoe that makes me feel forever young to quote Dylan like this one brings a smile from ear to ear everytime I run in them.

@EDDBUD Your priorities change the older you get because it's more about being able to keep running as long as your body and your overall health allow you to. How fast you can run takes a back seat to comfort, recovery, and injury prevention. A shoe like the Superblast makes it easier to continue to run as you age and to feel fast even if you're not.

@Robzabest25 Their are exercises I do every day to strengthen my knees. You can find physical therapists on youtube who do a good job explaining and demonstrating these exercises and how you can make them part of your daily routine.

Just sent back the SB2 today. It was very comfortable, but it was to much of a shoe for my small frame and it killed my shins. Running with it just wasn’t fun, as if I had a tank of my feet. It felt nicer when I ran faster, but the speed 4 feels much nicer when I run fast. I tried it for 40km, and it was to rigid and unflexibel for me. I only hope asics will give me my money back, as I did run with them and they‘re not new any more. X2 should arrive today. I love the Mach 6, so I hope I will love the x2.

You're making a nice case for the Hokas! I've not had the best luck trying Hokas over the years. Either they're too narrow or cause some blistering somewhere. I did pick up the Skyflow and while the sizing is adequate....it's just now wowing me for some reason so I think it's going up on ebay shortly. If the Mach X 2 goes on sale down the road I'd consider it. For now I'm having a lot of fun in the Hyperion 2 and the Mizuno Neo Vista.

I wonder what New Balance would say if someone reached out to them about the pricing discrepancy between U.S. and U.K.? Maybe a dealer could provide some insight. If they have a legitimate reason, it would be good to know what it is.

My own two cents, more than likely because New Balance is based in America and it's a shipping issue. Maybe New Balance hasn't figured out how to get it over the pond affordably. In the US the SC Trainer V3 Is only $20 more than the cheapest one on this list, with the SB2 to and Mach X2 being the most expensive.

I finally got to try out the Superblast 2 today! I am sad to say I just didn’t love them:( They fit fine and had enough cushion, but they just felt huge. I’m glad I tried them and hopefully it will make someone’s day when I send them back. For now I’ll be sticking with my Hyperion Max 2’s. Such a great feeling upper, lots of cushion and I can pick up the pace. It’s so interesting how everyone has such individual tastes and I’m glad there are so many choices!

They take 100km to get used to if it’s your first time using such a big stack. Persist with them they get better as your mechanics adjust. I was the same, but now they are great. Probably would by them again, even though i found myself so awkward and hating them at the start. Oh and i have the max 2 as well, so know exactly what you mean, the brooks is more friendly to run in with out a getting used to it period.

not had the updated SB or brookes yet, but for me 2024 has been the suprise from mizuno neo vista. keeps getting better and faster as you get use to that roll through. shame the rebellion flash2 dont have a wide platform as the mizuno midsoles are the mutz nutz, same for many shoes keeping platforms narrow just to keep weight down.

I like the sb2 and the Brooks Hyperion max 2. Haven’t tried the other ones so can’t comment. But i find myself using sb2 for pretty much everything from tempo down, and then brooks Hyperion for threshold pace and tempo only.

The popular opinion is the Superblast is the super trainer of the year. For me, it's the Mach X2. Feels much better across a wider range of paces, whereas the SB really only felt good to me at tempo. Mach X2 is also deceivingly comfortable. Hoka did an awesome job with their foam this year.

X2's should be here Wednesday.👍🏼 Moved to a much constant and warmer climate this last March, so I'm looking forward to the new foam and the upper on the X2. I passed on several New Balance shoes this year with the whole line not seeming to fit me very well this year, except for the 1080v13. After going out twice in those though, they were quicky retired to casual use as they were just too soft to run in, even being a lighter framed fellow. I saw the 1089v14 coming to market next month which seemed to remedy it being overly soft. I am still not interested in just another boring 1080 offering after continuing to enjoy my Mach 6's, which I bought two colorways in. Super excited to get these out on the road later this week. Appreciate your input, as always.

The Mach are a really nice surprise. Nice smooth ride but with a great range of pace possible. These have something a little extra over the rest for me

Personally feel like the SB2 excels at slightly faster paces. They feel good on recovery runs etc. but getting up to 4 min/km I feel they really perform well, while giving you extra protection from the impact. Similar to your conclusions I think the shoes optimal use case is long runs and tempo miles. A marathon maybe the ideal race for them!

Great thing about the SB2 is no plate, great on the legs, never have any issues and still propulsive. The other shoes will have an edge with propulsion because they have plates or rods!

Here in the states, the NB SC trainer 3 is running around $179. I have not tried the V3, have been running on the V2 and love that shoe (bought two pair while I could) When I run out the NB SC V2 trainers, I have to take a look at the Hoka.

Hoka Mach X2 would have been a great training shoe if they had kept a more traditional heel counter, something more like SuperBlast 2. Otherwise I like all the other changes over Mach X1. I was able to get a pair of SB2 and definitely a great shoe despite being a bit more expensive (and hard to get hold of a pair).

I'm a medium weight runner and my Boston 12 reached 900+ miles (upper still with no tear and the rubber on the outsole is still decent...). Even with how "old" they are, I can still get some really good responsiveness from the foam.

The Hoka look great aesthetically. I feel like I’d navigate towards the Boston just through trusting (?) how lightstrike feels. I’m a heavier runner so I don’t tend to get on well with shoes I feel I’m bottoming out on. The MoreV4 for example, just felt like quicksand. I daily the SL2 at the moment, with the Takumi10 being the speedy shoe, this Hoka is very appealing as a quicker but more padded option! I did pick up a pair of Hyperion Max 1 but they felt like a brick!

@@TheRedarmy322 I think so. I would use the Boston for longer runs where you may be putting in some speed work, but want a little more foam under foot than the TS. SL2 for daily/slow miles, Boston for longer runs and your Takumi for your shorter punchier efforts/workouts. They’re all very capable shoes.

It’s quite a stiff and firm shoe - I like using it for tempo and intervals, but it’s not really a “fun” shoe. I had one of the worst long runs ever in it, partly due to the stiffness and having very tired legs and feet that day. The comparisons with the Rocket X2 are interesting because that’s what I was hoping for in the original, but they feel like totally different shoes to me.

Cheers Ed! I’m looking to replace my beloved NB Rebel v2s and Magic Speed 3s, any recommendations? I have a medium to narrow foot and think that Rebel v4 will be too wide for me.

The Hoka and brooks are much better fit for me. The rebel was massive
