Thats what Eddie Hearn says word for word. There are dozens of boxing promoters up and down the country but the most well known is probably Eddie Hearn because he does so much press and media interviews. Ben Shalom doesn't have to do any interviews because the Sky platform deals with all the media coverage and promoting the fights. I'm curious though why you watch his interviews if you find him so boring.

This is absolute rubbish! So now it’s about profile and money…the Smith vs Azim was MANDATED by EBU so you could have gone to purse bids and made sure that the fighters got paid what they are worth but instead (and not for the first time pulled your fighter out of purse bids). Also keeps talking about “in 4/5 fights time this will be a massive fight”…… in 4/5 fights time Dalton Smith has a good chance of being a World Champion and Eddie will literally wait until purse bids again because he knows he will win it. Also with Matchrooms current stable at 140 you will HAVE to let Azim box on DAZN! And Jordan Thompson has sod all to do with you pulling 5 of your fighters out of purse bids against matchroom. The Azim-Smith fight shouldn't happen now and the truth is that Azim is 21 with zero senior amateur experience/still developing, whereas Dalton is 27 and ready to step up. Eddie knows that Dalton can't beat the 140 pounders in his stable like Hitchins and Matias so he's latching on to an inexperienced Azim which also helps build Smith's profile. I definitely agree that Shalom and the Mcguigan's haven't managed this situation well in the slightest but Eddie would have done the same had the roles been reversed as we've seen in the past with his fighters. Also, how many mandatories does one have to defend against before they can vacate the EBU without it being considered ducking? This is all just a PR move from Hearn and it helps distract you casual fans from the Conor Benn result/situation.

The move makes sense. Both fighters have been elevated in profile just by association. Azim can go out and make a statement against a name in Harlem Eubank, Dalton Smith can challenge for the EBU belt without waiting…. They’ll both come together next year or year after in a huge domestic clash for money, more titles and more eyes on both of them, so win or lose, it’s still progressing their careers.

Shalom is right sadly, Smith needs the Azim fight right now more than Azim needs Smith. From a career, timing, profile and financial point of view. As much as I’d love to see it, from a management point of view that fight is better for Azim is in 2 years when Azim is 23 and Smith is 29 and there will be more money on the table. Eddie needs that fight now and knows it’s best for his man hence he’s pressing every button he can to bring the heat.
