One of the GodFathers of Freestyle. Awesome Eddie. All of us in our late 40s and early 50s. We thank you for the great times as a kid growing up in the 80's.

The tricks might not have been the most cutting edge at the time, but its the way he does them that makes them special. Total showman. Smooth, total style, and the ultimate showman. I dont think he was competing to win, but rather have fun and entertain at that time. Best all around rider ever.

The Moon walk was just epic considering the backing track. BMX evolved way past this level but classics are so good to see even in 2020. I never had internet when I was the local BMX star in my own mind hahahaha. BMX action pix captures from Fiola, Mike Miranda on a beauty PK Ripper was what I had in UK to try emulate.......I miss those days.

The flair and showmanship really set him apart. Little flourishes, barspins, pedal spins, tipping his visor to the crowd. Just superb. Finally got to meet him last week almost 40 years after first seeing him airing Pipeline in a magazine. Such an awesome person!

Eddie Fiola was "The Man" that made BMX what it is today, There is something that these great riders of today cannot learn, and that is "Style" most of Today's Tricks are so complex they go over the head, so I think respect is needed here, we are talking about the Video/Eddie Fiola....why does it go into a direction where we start dissing?? anyway I could watch Video's like this all day.

Wichita Kansas..Wonder if BTK was in the audience?? LOl Fiola and Aparijo rule even to this day. I watch them constantly and have yet to seen someone be as smooth and crisp as them. Even when their foot hit the ground I would still give them a 10 because they are classy too. Role models for kids. Sucks to get old. But I still see Eddie and Martin on KZbin doing their thing. You'r never too old to ride a bike.

Flatland freestyle was fun to watch but it seemed very limited in the amount of tricks they could perform and it just never caught on in a big way. Similar to rodney mullens bag of tricks ,even tho he is an amazing skater. When it comes to riding BMX in the pools and half pipes,etc ...eddie was king. I remember being 11 and lusting after the bicycles all those guys were riding. I made some pretty decent bikes but nothing like these guys had. Standing on top of an 8 foot drop in is pretty intimidating to say the least. Thank you for uploading these gems

Anyone know what bike he was on in this vid? For some reason my brain is telling me he left GT and was on Ozone for a year or so b4 kinda fading out.. this bike isnt a GT as GT didnt have head tube gussets on its freestyle Performer series.. and the small top tube platform.. Maybe CW ?
@scotty1935 жыл бұрын
Yeah the video is hard to tell, I thought a chrome GT Performer at first original model but that gusset from down tube to head stem is a REDLINE feature then. I am unsure on this one and maybe some custom manufacturer like you suggest.

Most the modern tricks you can link back to Eddie, RL Osbourne, and hoffman, and the sport had to finally move even further forward. You can't diss Eddie because he's like the "Godfather" of the flat ground and ramp king, but people have a competitive spirit and will always raise the bar on sports to make them more exciting. Alot of the new tricks are extensions, or newer versions of the old ones anyway. If Eddie just happened to be born in 1990, he would still be the best around here, HEHE...

Actually, I was taking the piss out of you mate. "how about doing some real tricks", who the hell are you to say that about Eddie Fiola? The guys of that era Pioneered the sport. Riders today are drawing on decades of knowledge. Back then there was no-one to show you tricks, you had to make them up. Instead of being sarcastic, just say thank you and be on your way !!

Let's put this Columbus AFA comp into perspective for those that are unaware.....us kids from the Midwest absolutely destroyed the pros from California at this event. In fact, it marks the beginning of the end for that era.....our rolling tricks set the standard that are still mostly used today. Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania kids redefined BMX freestyle.....just watch Billy Neuman's ride on here from that same day.

he could've taken the win, if he had done an extra hundred or so barspins.
