One of my primary and biggest influences as a guitarist and musician, ever since I heard Maggot Brain it was all over from there. I made it a mission to hear every note Eddie ever recorded. It’s very unfortunate his music and legacy isn’t more well known among guitar players. Eddie Hazel should be a household name just like Jimi Hendrix. I’m 24 and have been playing since I’m 14, I’ve never met a musician that’s into Eddie or Funkadelic besides the occasion guy knowing only Maggot Brain. I feel it’s my duty to keep his music alive and spread his legacy any way I can, I’ve introduced and turned a lot of people on to him and I don’t intend to ever stop. One my favorite things in life is seeing somebody’s awestruck reaction to hearing Eddie Hazel and Funkadelic for the first time. The same thing applies to my other main influences: Peter Green, Paul Kossoff, Michael Bloomfield, Rory Gallagher, and Roy Buchanan.

Aside from Maggot Brain as his most known piece. Good Thoughs - Bad Thoughs and From The Bottom Of My Soul will always be Hazel's crowining jewels from my perspective. I was listening GT-BT while I was tripping on shrooms. Opened my window , just got hit by a wave of freshness / it was snowing outside/ , stood at my window for quite some time . It was late night , watching my town's lights and my town in general glowing and breathing while Eddie is slowpicking in the background , cried my eyes out that night.Sadly he never got the recognition he deserved.Peace !

As an African American musician, we learned how to play 'black gospel' music in the black church as youth during the 'Praise and Worship' portion of church services. Whether singing in the choir, playing drums, bass , lead & rhythm guitars and to include keyboards and percussions as well. Black Gospel music has its roots in the Blues, so its a natural thing growing up finding one's self learning a rich and priceless experiences like none other. Take me to an African American church anytime, especially a Pentecostal church...they jam out!
