I came to the conclusion when I first started watching Eddie Izzard (and later found out this is TRUE) that he doesn't really have a 'set' or a 'list of jokes', he just gets on stage and you watch him play with his imagination for an hour. And it's fucking fascinating. I practically have this whole show memorized, and i still laugh at it. A comic genius, no question.

I don't buy that he makes up these jokes as he goes. I mean, many of us are able to make these jokes on the fly, but on command, infront an audience, it's too hard and our psyche too unreliable. I think its more likely that most of his jokes have been rehearsed repeatedly infront of a mirror and he's skilled enough to pull them out of his hat when the occasion calls for it. He cares little for a structured set, I might concede on that.
@Atamastra
@Atamastra 2 жыл бұрын
@@blurgle9185 I actually think it's somewhere between the two. I'm sure he has jokes rehearsed, but those are just monuments and rest stops on his comedic mental road trip; I think that's more likely than him having not rehearsed and memorized the set, but also rehearsed the very delivery to make it sound like he is just making it up as he goes.
@Atamastra

@@InternalMind History: Definition 1. the study of past events, particularly in human affairs. 2. the whole series of past events connected with someone or something. And both of them described History and the "PAST" being "Long Time Ago" makes perfect sense: Because of the Napoleonic Wars & 1812 being 208 years ago (aka A LONG TIME AGO) and WW2 - ending in 1945 being 75 years ago. (Also a Long time ago, that's like a grandparents entire lifetime.) So what Nettlis was saying was true ... It was Long Time Ago. And it's either get over it and learn from it, or do what you and Lena are doing and taking it personally. And Yes I did google word History for it's Definition, even though I am a bit of a History Buff and know what it freaking means. And I even did the Math showing you that It was infact "A Long Time Ago." Thus "The Study of past Events" aka "History." Yes History is Important, and yes I do know what your saying, but the idea behind it is "Learning from it" And not "Romantizing it and Repeating it." Infact we are making it right now in 2020, WITH THE CORONAVIRUS... What you guys do right now during this will effect the Future outcome of it and what will be the story you will have to tell "Kids" Younger than you who never experienced it "ABOUT IT!! " Because it is going to be "Their History Homework." So do you want to say "I wasted all my time Hoarding TP" or do you guys want to leave a legacy like your historical rolemodels? This is the greatest stand-up performance of all time. Each nuance adds something, so you actually feel there are four or five different people on stage. After he says, "You're lucky I'm Church of England," just look at his facial expression. The make-up accentuates his eyes and mouth, and the fact he doesn't have to hold a microphone gives his body freedom to perform, as though acting on stage. Magnificent lines, wonderfully performed. Genius. Never watch "Sexie".

If you were Hitler, and you could have continued to advance on England, or attacked Russia for their oil supplies, what would you have done?
@houngandave
@houngandave 5 жыл бұрын
@@Revelian1982 Here's the thing, ... How do you advance on an island? Either build a really long bridge while fending off attacks on same, or use boats, which need oil supplies. But a huge Mf'ing bridge also uses a S'load of steel, even more than an entire fleet of warships. O.K., let's see, hmmm, either way you still need huge amounts of oil and steel, which you also don't have anywhere near the amount you need to pursue your plans of conquest. But a successful campaign against Russia would solve one issue, somewhat. Never mind that so many campaigns against Russia have failed, and for the same reason every time. Gotta love that Nazi optimism, flying in the face of common sense and logic and any glimmer of intelligence or, oh, I don't know, reading a history book.

There's at least a few minutes missing between the bits (including the actual set up for the cake or death bit) so I don't think it was done specifically for the NRA joke. Doesn't seem like there's any deeper meaning to it. It's just some shoddy editing.
@grizzlyjefferson1228

I think the uploader only really intended to post the second half of this video, but the one-liner at the end about Hitler would be weird without the first half. So they put in enough video for context so that people wouldn't fill the comments with "why is he talking about Hitler," but instead made a situation where everyone's filling the comments with "why the weird editing."
