@@fifski Your comment is absurd on so many levels. English and French are not of the same root at all; the exerted mutual influence is not nearly as relevant as you make it to be; and most people native to the English language have ATROCIOUS accents in French. Since you're here, is it true that there is no stand-up comedy in France? That's hard to imagine, frankly.
@manneianevski9 жыл бұрын
Tairneanach LOL What? We actually have PLENTY of stand up comedian. I don't like all of them (matter of taste in humour), but personnally, my favorite one is Muriel Robin. She is known as the queen of humour in french. That's too bad that they don't include english subtitles in french stand up comedy, cause believe me, if you would understand her comedy, you would laugh your head off! ^^ Florence Foresti is also GREAT, Les robins des bois (even tho their humour is very poo/pee but hey, they make me laugh), Les Nuls (I can easily compare them to French and Saunders, as they did a LOT of excellent parody with many celebrities)... I can't name all of them, the list would be too long. But believe me, we laugh a lot in France ;) So no stand-up comedy in France? That's a huge lie ;) We love humour (who doesn't?)
@Tairneanach9 жыл бұрын
Manuel Gaisne Oh, of course you love humour, I thought maybe you had a different format. But it's true, I didn't really believe you had no stand-ups. Thanks for clearing that up, though. :) Thanks for dropping all those names, by the way. I do speak a little bit of French (really, really badly), so maybe I'll have a listen - if the humour isn't too much based on regional stuff, I might improve my understanding.
@manneianevski9 жыл бұрын
Tairneanach To be honest, you gave me the envy to put subtitles in some french stand up comedian to make them known by foreigners! But unfortunately, I think that you'll be so far the only one interested in this :/ It's also very hard to translate it correctly, especially because of the play of words which couldn't make any sens once translated... Languages can be such a barrier sometimes :( And I know that french language can be VERY hard for you to learn... As I always said, I'm glad to be french for this reason : I don't have to learn it :P And obviously, you're more than welcome ;)

+Matt Silverstein the younger generations of Québecois(e) want to learn english and there is less politcal BS, but to be fair the French colonized Canada first. The reason they and so many Canadians speak french is because when the british took over they allowed them to keep their language and religion and over time they were able to keep their culture. I respect that. As for "Québecois" language because they were cut off from france their language didn't evolve the same way and they use a very old style of french, but Québecois slang is mostly spoke to other Québeckers. They can speak formal french also. Our english isn't proper english with all the slag we use. A person learning english may go wtf does "whats saying?" Mean or sup

This is one of the funniest things I have ever seen! I have just become aware of Eddie Izzard. This is so wonderful!

It's funny because he's repeating his stand up in a different language. And he's got timing.

I literally know this entire video off by heart, I've seen it so many times. I know every point where he stumbles and repeats himself, every movement he makes. Nerdy? Maybe. Awesome? Yes.

@@zecle You mean ze differens bitouine ZIS and ZAT. If you replace a voiced dental fricative with a voiced alveolar sibilant in the one instance, then you must do it in the other instance as well. Put another way, because French doesn't have a voiced dental fricative, in the stereotypical French accent, a voiced dental fricative is replaced with a voiced alveolar sibilant. It is not replaced with a voiced labiodental fricative. That would be weird. It would be especially weird if the same speaker did it in one instance but not another.

Same is true of French Canadians. My sister was in Quebec and asked a man if he could tell her the way to the bus station. In impeccable English, he replied, "Do you speak French?" She said no. To which he replied, "Then no, I couldn't, could I?" and walked off. But at least there's Belgium, a/k/a French Lite. All the culture, half the attitude.
