I've always liked Eddie but only really recognised his real talent when years ago I went to his show and 2 nights later my partners parents surprised us with tickets to see his show! Being polite we didn't mention that we had already been and so the four of us went along. I was expecting to sit through the same show I'd watched 48 hours prior but it was amazing! Although the main points were all hit in roughly the same order it was like a completely different show because of the tangents he goes on, I would say 65 to 70% of the material was different to the first show. I do not know if he regularly does this or if he was just not happy with the material on this particular show but what I do know is both nights were incredible

Part of it is a difference in cultures: Standup in the U.S.A. is mostly about the rehearsed routine and about telling jokes in a traditional setup/punchline format, while in the U.K. standup comedy focuses more on riffing and on interacting with the audience. I don’t know why this difference exists. People I’ve know from the U.S.A. who’ve gone to U.K. comedy clubs routinely complain “Where are the jokes? Why was Aisling seeming to just ramble and occasionally talk to the audience?” and conversely, U.K. friends who’ve gone to U.K. comedy clubs have complained “Was that _it!??_ All Sarah did was stand there and tell rehearsed jokes … the same ones as from her C.D.!!” (Although curiously there’s very little improv comedy in the U.K., like when a troupe takes suggestions from the audience and then makes up a sketch. All major metro areas in the U.S.A. have at least three schools each dedicated to teaching improv, but in the U.K. - despite being the birthplace of _Whose Line Is It Anyway?_ - it’s pretty rare, and when U.K. comedians do try their hand at it, they don’t follow the “rules” of “yes, and” or “never negate the scene” etc. because they simply haven’t learnt them.) So yes, what Eddie Izzard does-riffing lots of new material each night-is pretty standard for her act, and very impressive … but it’s actually what you’ll see many, many, many U.K. comedians do, in contrast to most U.S.A. comedians, although of course exceptions to that general rubric exist on both sides of the pond.

And very true! Even with the extra men for holding Eurasia, you're attacked from all sides. And the Australia gambit only works in many-player games. With no one else controlling a continent, those two extra Australians and easy defense give a big strategic advantage. In a three-player game two of you can fight over Australia while the third player goes all world domination. Until you realize it and forget Australia. Then you team up and annihilate the third player. Disappointed we never fought the apocalyptic battle in the middle east after we destroyed him.
