+Froobyone, maybe because body shaming isn't funny?
@Froobyone8 жыл бұрын
Ah, you misunderstand. It's a comment on how high his trousers look in comparison to his open shirt. You are right to call people out for body-shaming. More power to you, but this wasn't a case of body shaming. I guess it was sartorial shaming, but I've met and talked to Eddie and I'm fairly certain he'd see the funny side. Sorry to have caused you accidental offence. :)

Froobyone The late eighties and early nineties were hard on all of us. This appears to be the "Vault Boy look." Certainly better than the "Big Bird" look I sported at the time.

First saw him in Montreal in '93 when he had a one man show at the Jesuit sanctuary. He was in a dress for that one...this one is earlier..

“Painful to watch,” eh? Well, you know what they say: to master a craft you have to practice it for at least 10,000 hours. Perhaps this performance was at the 5000 hour mark. In any case, Eddy Izzard fans know that this precise routine was honed and used again later. What I didn't know was that he was working on it in Montreal - where I lived at the time. (And no, he doesn't remember me.)

When I saw this at the time, I thought it was incredibly funny, really doubled me over. Now I see it, in 2018, and it's not especially funny. Can't work out whether this is because I remembered it so clearly and knew what was coming, or because now I'm just older. Sigh.

Do you think it's because comedy was different back then? He is a bit older than I am, but I am trying to remember if perhaps comedy just was different, and maybe is different every couple of years, or decade & we forget that. When we look back, we think, "gosh, it isn't that funny anymore".
