In this VladTV exclusive, Eddie Mathis -- the man once referred to as the godfather of the DC drug trade -- detailed his life story. Growing up in a 12-person household during the 1950s and 1960s, Mathis started having run-ins with the law by the age of nine. He described stabbing a bully when he was 11 and getting involved in petty crimes throughout his teens. Mathis told tales of being in youth and adult correctional facilities before explaining how he got into dealing heroin. He also described an incident where he was sentenced to 20 years to life over a murder charge that he eventually got reversed. Mathis described how crack impacted DC and the drug trade, and spoke about serving about 20 years after catching a conspiracy charge. To hear more, check out the above interview.

I’m from D.C. Yes I made a lot of money. From hustling. But I have nothing to show for it. The money came fast and was spent just as fast. But once I turned my life to JESUS EVERYTHING changed for me. I was able to use my street knowledge legally. Eddie thank you for sharing your story.

I knew a lot of guys in the streets I was one of them. I didn’t make millions but I hustled in the 2000s late 90s it wasn’t like the 70-80s when they were making millions! But yes I still know a lot of guys and not one has any money from that life. Once I worked a legit job and started towing and I seen more money and obtained more in life! If u are blessed to make it out the streets there’s other legit hustles u can turn to and live a great life without worrying about jail.

By far the best Glad interview I have seen. Much much respect to Mr Mathis a legend in the city! To be able to soak up his reflections on life is truly a blessing. I actually got arrested the same night him and the guys did and wound up riding in same paddy wagon to Central Cell block. Bumped n2 one of the guys later down Lorton for a few months and I use to love to pick his brain. Would've been an honor to meet Mr Mathis

A little history on the heroine game. Let’s say you buy some heroine that can take a 10. That means for every gram of heroine you can put 10 grams of cut on it, maximizing your profit. He mentioned the 1st and the 15th them were the days welfare recipients got their checks. About 1wk before the 1st you have the heroine on a 5, instead of the 10. With it being on a 5 it is at its strongest making all the dope fiends asking for your brand of heroine. Once the 1st hits, you jump it up to a 10 to maximize your profit. Even tho it won’t be as strong as it was on a 5, mentally the fiends will be looking for your brand because how good it was in prior wks. Then you repeat the same process before the 15th.

Yes come up in DC from a huge large family back in them days was tough especially for a black male. This VLADTV interviewer guys seems to me that he wants again as all of them do (our European selfish bros) to belittle a black male of his past misfortune. Then when we to bring up his past of 310 years of free labor, or even how during recent past years the 50, 60, and 70s the America refusal to treat the black male with dignity and respect which in turn didn't allow them the same opportunity to work or start business like the others were given, as well as being the last hired and the first 🔥 fire. Then they come with excuses after excuses to not teach that part of America history and it's reparations unto a people, OR Simply who are the REAL GANGSTERS folks behind the destruction of the black communities with Racism, Second Class Citizenship, The Poor, The Rich, Addicted Drugs Creation, low wages, The American falsehood of the cost of living with inflation only to make the Rich Richer and the middle class and under Poorest, ...... and it goes on and on. PLEASE can we all just love the TRUTH and your NEIGHBOR with a forgiveness ❤️ and stop letting money and a selfish heart RULE???! Be Bless Be Beautiful All humans and JESUS Loves You!

55:06 Stupid question and respect less. Nobody ask those kind of questions to alcohol companies bosses, to the weapons industries CEOs, to the fast food and sugar companies, tobacco industry or pharmaceutical companies. He was a businessman he didn't force anyone to use drugs. He's community got hurt not from the drugs but from oppression and poverty, lack of education and information, lack of opportunity, fathers getting locked up for long time for the same crime other people go to rehabilitation as punishment or pay fines, drugs were the consequences of neglecting a group of people as for the natives it was alcohol. And today when white people (rural and small towns for the most) doesn't have the opportunity they had on the good old days and many grow up on an environment of poverty, violence etc they get hit by "opioid crisis". How many people have an accident and get morphine pills and they don't get addicted. It's not the drugs it's the human being who destroy his own life and their neighbours. You have choice as an adult. Is so easy to blame poverty and all the other problems on crack or drugs. Be honest black people come always last in America. Why didn't black people have this problem in Uruguay? It's so easy for this white dude (vlad) to try to put the blame (on the black people's distress) on dealers. Black haven't had a honest chance in America since someone kidnapped them and took them to America and when they were on their way to have business and a strong Afro-American economy, white and rich people destroyed it. This same problem had the gypsy's in Spain in the 70s and 80s instead of crack it was heroine. What their had on common, their were last on stairway, it was a lot of laws against them, bad or no schools etcetera. So stop this bullshit about blaming drug dealers and drugs as the cause of black people's poverty. 80 % of non black people are against reparations, that shows you how racist people are in America. What they say it's OK to kidnap people force them to another continent make them work 100 years for free, when the slavemaster's son feels for some pussy, he can rape a black woman. They're saying is OK. Vulnerable people are always gonna be hit harder than people with educated parents and grandparents with savings, with a clean and good neighbourhood, neighbours who went to college, with a police force who are there to protect and serve, with schools with good teachers, and a psycholog for kids with some kind of problem. A father to talk etc

He very much has a DC accent. The Uptown DC accent is completely different from the South side. My father sounds like him, and he was born at DC General, and raised in NE and NW. Went to Coolidge. Old heads don't have that twang like young dudes have. Hell My DC accent is like his - and Im from Brookland.
