Eddie Murphy's Delirious was released in 1983. Raw was the second stand up special released in 1987. Edit: In Raw Eddie was wearing red leather. Delirious was blue...

Delirious was an HBO special (years later -after: Raw- it had a brief theatre release, as well.). Raw was his first real movie. The outfit tells you, easily, which it's from. "Delirious" is the red leather. "Raw" is blue leather.

Eddie came out at this time that he was a huge Elvis fan. Bruhs and sistas gave him the side-eye big time, i recall. I did too. Of course, this is before most of us knew his story and how he came about his style of music and his love of Black music: he simply imitated what he saw and heard, with his own style. I was a senior in HS when this dropped. It was HUGE

This performance is part of a comedy video called Delirious. Eddie Murphy is onstage for about an hour and his performance is so funny you'll be in pain from laughing. It was released around 1982 and it is not PC. Watch the whole performance if you get a chance.

Eddie was right about James Brown. I met Mr. Brown at the airport in ATL back in '95. We spoke for about 2 or 3 min and I only understood a third of it. i told him I played and told me to keep it funky. I promised him that I would...and I do.

That album was hilarious! He was great on SNL too! He was so incredibly talented! I feel like once he made a lot of money in the movies, he kinda just started mailing it in, but maybe he just didn't get the opportunities to show how great he still was. On SNL, he could do it every week.

I used to have that comedy album on cassette, back in the day. Didn't have the visuals, of course. Eddie did have a single in the 80's, but it wasn't much of a musical career. He does sing as Donkey in the Shrek movies. I wouldn't consider myself an expert on Stevie Wonder's music, but he had a song 'Higher Ground', that was later covered by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as one of the first songs I heard from them.

the industry robbed us of some incredible comedy genius when they forced Eddie to stop doing standup. IMHO there are not many if any comedians since the 80s that could hold a candle to his comedy. His name should be up there with Robin Williams, Mel Brooks, Carlin, and a handful of others who have transitioned into the Epic GOATs that they were. I hope someday while he is still blessing us here on this earth, that he returns to doing standup and returns to his no-holds-bar approach to humor. The world would surely laugh for decades more if he did.
