We had two Westies for 16 years. They'd run up the stairs, no problem, but all their lives they would never come down. Sooo cute, we had to carry them down. Needless to say, we had to put a gate at the bottom in case they got stuck upstairs while we were out. Wish I still had them. Miss all the fun every day. Beautiful breed.

Eddie, you are now considered accomplished & skillful in your endeavour! A rite of passage. I absolutely LOVE Westies! Our girl, Shelbie, will be 17 on the 4th of July, 2024!!! A momentous occasion. I pray she makes it. Best pup (I always call her pup) we've ever had. A sweetheart. A joy. Trained within days of bringing her home. She is brilliant. If anyone out there is considering getting a small breed, I would highly recommend a West Highland Terrier! So sweet & funny. Makes us laugh every day! Thanks for the chance to promote WHT's. 🌻 j.

I've had Westies for the past 25 years. They have all beenbeen a pleasure to have. Each one had a different personality even though I loved each one cause they all shared the Westie characteristics. They like chasing birds around in the backyard and walk around happy and pround. They love water and sometime chase after that too.

When I lived in Indiana, my wife was given a Westie. His name was Jack. He had a terrible black skin condition. I started bathing him in a sulphur solution. I had him cured except a small place on his head and ears. I had to leave him at home with my family, while I went to Colorado on business.. I got back about 5 weeks later, his condition was almost as bad as when I started treating him. He growled at us when he needed a bath, was the excuse used by my wife and teenage boys. He always grumbled about everything. I got sent to Austin, Texas, and never got to see him again. Jack was a terribly good dog, I loved him, but travels can put a strain on him not being able to be kept. RIP dear Jack!

My Westie did the same thing when he first learned how to master stairs as a pup. He would only go up on the right side of the stairs and needed a "running start" at first. "Bender" is 6 years old now.

when Sadie (my westie) was that size our Cat and huskey would be laying at the top of the stairs and she being a puppy would want to play we would her her bark then yelp and hear a thumping sound and low and behold she would be on the landing long story short or huskey or cat would push her down the stairs... now 5 years later our huskey pushes her it to the pool

my late westie Sam was nearly 17 when he died and he never went down the house stairs.He was fine going down the stairs to the back garden. Twice in the last few months of his life he fell down the stairs, awful thing to see !! we had to get a gate at the top.

He was only 2 months old when he did this. Sadly Eddie passed away in may this year. He was the best dog, such a beautiful boy. Enjoy every moment with your new pup!

I have little terrier, his name is Tuffy, when I went pick him up from the breeder, he weighted 3lbs and 11ozs. I bought him home in my purse, I got the rut and now he weighs 6lbs 2oz., he's 2 and a half, he's full grown, but I don't think having their Westie coming down after some threats, little guy was so Scared! But, every owner can do with their baby Westie as they Please! (Just my own Opinion) Hope he's doing and growing Strong, he's so Special!!
