Eddie Van Halen Lamborghini Miura First Drive in Italian Alps! - Ep. 19

Eddie Van Halen's Lamborghini Miura is famous for its use in Van Halen's Panama song. We were lucky enough to be able to purchase the car from him several years ago and collaborated with Lamborghini Polo Storico to fully restore it in honor of Eddie's specifications. In September we traveled to the factory and took delivery of this 4-year project in the best way possible. The Van Halen Miura joined 26 other vintage Lamborghinis for a Lamborghini 60th Anniversary rally around northern Italy, then back down through the Italian countryside to the Lamborghini factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese. This was an extremely emotional reunion as I was able to finally meet Ingrid, who was Ferruccio Lamborghini's personal assistant, and who also served as my father's point of contact for many years to buy parts and visit the factory. Extremely grateful, and extremely emotional!

I also remember phoning the factory as a teenager and speaking with Ingrid. She was kind enough to send me the first Lamborghini brochures that started my collection. What a privilege you had to meet her in person and bring your experience full circle.

This video is what car passion is all about : beautiful cars, incredible engineering, and the pleasure to experience them in first person and letting other experience them as well. Sometimes it is difficult to explain what really passion for cars is all about because someone can really see the attachment to a material object. At the end it is something about the soul; this testimonance is just that : what the object is able to transmit people and the emotions from that. I can't tell you how happy I was to see that they've left the car red. By memory the original factory colour was green but it was red for the entirety of Eddie Van Halen's custodianship of it. Word was that it would be returned to green during the resto, so I was glad to see red paint peeking out from under the cover. Actually, the way the guy gingerly and curiously checks under the cover like he's not sure what colour it will be makes me wonder whether they left that decision to Lamborghini and it was a surprise. Anyway, I'm just glad they stayed with rock'n'roll red; Eddie would be happy.

For me, the best part of this entire thing is seeing the relationships with everyone, and all of it centered around a car brand. The story of this particular Miura is special enough but knowing about the people behind it really makes it unique. IMO, the cars are always what grab the attention but the relationships and connections along the way are what is really special.

Congratulations Curated. This might be your pinnacle episode! I had two take aways watching this... First of all, I always thought Jon was a good guy, a passionate guy, but when he called his dad and reunited him with Miss Ingrid, I realized Jon is an OUSTANDING GUY!! Jon's tears got me! At that moment I knew, for Jon its just as much about the people and the journey as it is about the cars. ❤ Secondly, the way Lamborghini handled the unveiling of the Miura, the way they treat people in general tells me its a company run by people passionate for their brand. You can tell they are petrolheads first and business people second. ❤ And in the automotive industry thats important. I could name for you atleast three brands right now that I feel have no soul anymore because there is no passion at the top. Its just business to them and it shows. I may never be able to afford to own a Lamborghini and Im ok with that. Just knowing experiences like this are being had by good people like Jon and his team in this day and age of misery brings comfort to the idea that there is still some light in this world. Most people don’t get the effort and time involved to acquire most of the cars Curated has let alone the time to restore them so they don’t get what this channel and company is about. I think Eddie would get a real kick seeing his car restored at the factory. He owned that car since the early 80s when Valerie Bertinelli bought it for him and he drove it regularly the entire time he owned it. Such a beautiful car with a beautiful history.
