In 2010 I had stage 4 colon cancer. And was given a year to live. I used to listen to this song and cry my eyes out because my kids were 7 and 9, and my wife was only 27. I used to think about them at my funeral and how hard it would be for them. Obviously I got lucky. But a few years later, in 2014 my wife overdosed and died. She had some issues that she fought for a long time. And she lost. And I never realized that now I’m on the other end of this song. Now I keep her in my heart. I make sure I talk to her everyday. And think of the good times. And talk to my kids about fun vacations, or silly stories so we all keep her memory alive. For some reason I am in a Nancy (her name) rut today. I miss her. I miss her a lot.

My Dad loved Warren Zevon. For Christmas 2003 I gave him this CD. On December 30th, my Dad was golfing with friends and died suddenly from a heart attack. I was the family member called by his golfing pals so I had to go down to the course. A couple days later we went to pick up his car and when I turned it on, The Wind was in the CD player and incredibly, this is the song that was playing. I cannot hear it without tearing up, it's been long enough that I tear up with a smile. Such a beautiful song.

Warren was a real musician, and writer. He died like a man could only hope, with dignity and honour. Never made anyone sad, made jokes about his demise, recorded a entire album with stage 4 lung cancer and shortness of breath and unfortunately, this is the last song he recorded in his house before passing. The VH1 documentary is incredibly sad, but courageous. Excitable Boy is one of the best albums ever front to back. Rip Warren

I have no idea how this came up on KZbin for me tonight. When my husband died 16 years ago, two of his friends decided to create a 2-CD album of his favorite songs. I selected them, and Joe and Jim found recordings (not so easy back then!) and made the album. When it was delivered to me on what would have been Jack's 60th birthday, this song (by Warren) had been added. I did not know it; was so touched to have it included.

i haven't heard Warren's version in years because it's so beautiful it makes me sob, i mean ugly cry. I do love Eddie, so I decide to watch it. Started to sob toward the end. This is such a honest and pure song that makes it so powerful. At Warren's last appearance on Dave's show, Warren gave Dave one of his guitars.

I have had heart issues. I had a stroke at 45 but doing better now. Eddie should release this song as a single
