On a samoan bus! I love this island.

A tour on a traditional samoan bus, in Upolu island, along the Cross Island Road, before the tsunami, July 2007, from Apia to Tafitoala.

rode my first bus when I was 19 visiting Samoa for the first time.... passsed on sitting on some dude's lap, opted for standing on someone else's plywood, next to their dog. Dad was a bus driver back when we used to live there, moved stateside when I was a year old.... he was the first driver to pack the buses... used to have guys sitting on the rooftop, last bus out of Apia, didn't want to leave anyone behind. Definately an experience you shouldn't miss, plus the music they play is a trip.

How typical that the bus has to wait for the passenger running from the bak of the house 2the front not forgetting the big rocks & tires secure the roofs insted of havn them nailed down & how there are so many things in the aisle of the bus that u get stared down by the owner if you step on it but really its there fault they shudnt be left there. Last of all when i was younger i use to sit on a strangers lap & majority of them cuddle you whilst your sleeping as if your their own. Gr8 music :)

@eddiesailor No, respect goes to you. You're the one visiting our homeland and documenting it in a positive manner. I love being Samoan and everything our rich culture has. I enjoy the simple life that living in Samoa affords, nothing like the manic, hectic lifestyle we are used to here in the states. Planning a trip home next year, will definately put my boys on one of those buses. An experience they shouldn't miss out on. Manuia le aso!

@eddiesailor ur welcome, but its nice tho waiting long in the peaceful village and watching people getting on with their day. And you can see things on a samoan bus unlike any other bus u been on hehehe. When an elderly person walks in anywun in the front seats will let that old man or lady take that seat and he or she will stand. If the the bus is full especially after school, someone might seat on ur lap hehehe. I miss riding the samoan bus tho...peace

Samoa - that I consider one of the last corner of paradise of this planet - I met the most generous, positive, polite and beautiful people in the world. I left there some good and precious friends. Malae, Faleolo and their lovely kids. I sent them a little "help" after the tsunami and hope they're all in a perfect shape now. God bless Samoa. Thanks my friend.

@neomysterio: the reason is so simple. People in polinesia has an unbelievable food avaliability, if you compare it with other country of the world. More, they has no reason to be stressed and they uses to dedicate themselves to very little sport activity. If we add together all this factors, the answer is very easy to find: obesity. Today, unfortunely, their DNA is almost compromised and the fight against obesity is actually a priority. Sometimes, happiness is our worst enemy...
